Pearl was a young lioness that left her pride to be with her lover - a young loner roaming the lands of Africa in search of a pride to call his own.
Their journey, however, did not last long. Soon winter came, harsh and brutal. Prey became harder and harder to find, which greatly weakened both Pearl and her lover.
One day they found shelter in the mountains. The abandoned den they found was made of sticks and dried bushes. It wasn't particularly durable, but it gave enough warmth to be considered comfortable. It looked like they would be able to spend some time in safety, but they weren't so lucky. On the same night they found the shelter, there was an awful storm. All the wind caused an avalanche that hit the exact same spot in which Pearl and her lover decided to rest. Pearl's lover heard the danger first. He could have saved them both, he could... But he didn't. He left Pearl alone, to the avalanche and the cold.
The last thing Pearl saw was her lover, disappearing into the distance. The next thing that happened was snow. A lot of snow. Suffocating, filling everything. It was in her eyes, her ears, her lungs. The snow crushed her and killed her.
There was too much of it. Pearl's soul couldn't leave, it was trapped under it.
She had to wait for the snow to melt. It took weeks. Weeks filled with grief, longing and loneliness.
When the soul was finally free it was too late for it to get to Heaven.
The soul decided to roam the lands of Africa again. Now alone, in search of traitors like her lover.
She began calling herself after what ended her - Avalanche.
