Quartz joined
Anza's pride as a cub, after the king picked her up from the pride in which she was born.
She was a very extroverted and outgoing cub, but for some reason she just couldn't settle into her new pride. It wasn't anyones fault, she felt good around her pridemates, and the pride's territory was also pretty nice.
When she was about to turn 2 years old and her feelings were still present she decided to talk about them with Anza. The king listened to her and told her that she reminded him of his daughter, Lollipop.
Lollipop was one of two daughters of Anza and Iris. Even though she was born in the pride, she couldn't call it her home. She felt wrong there, so when she became an adult she decided to leave the pride and become a traveler. She visited her family once, after almost a year of her journey. She was happier than ever! After this visit she left again, and was never seen again.
Anza told Quartz that maybe she was meant to become a traveler, just like Lollipop. Quartz wasn't sure about this idea, but she had to admit that traveling through the savannah sounded interesting.
She decided to try it, and at the age of 2 years and 3 months she left the pride to become a traveler.
Her journey started well, but it didn't last long. After only two days of wandering, Quartz accidentaly startled an antelope that was being hunted by a cheetah lurking nearby. This led to a fight, which the cheetah won easily. Fighting has never been Quartz's thing...
Quartz tried to continue her journey, but she was injured. Her wound soon developed an infection that greatly weakened the lioness. Luckily for her, she soon came across an old wandering shaman. He took care of Quartz, and when she got better he even taught her about some basic herbs in case she'll need them again.
Quartz never paid much attention to shamans. She knew of their existence, and once even exchanged a few words with the shaman in Anza's pride,
Zecora. But now that she was able to observe the shaman's work up close, she discovered how interesting it was. Shamans not only treated the wounded, but also lifted their spirits and took care of their mental health. The more experienced ones were even able to communicate with the spirits. Actual spirits!
Quartz finally knew what she was made for. She was meant to be a shaman!
She rushed back to Anza's pride and asked Zecora to teach her.
Zecora gladly took Quartz as her apprentice. She was getting older, and she hoped that someone young will take her place when her time will come.
Quartz was quick to learn new herbs and even found to have a very deep connection to the spirits. Training under Zecora's supervision could have made her a truly great shaman!
During her training Quartz befriended
Bat'Wing, a curious lioness always looking for new adventure. As soon as she found out that Quartz was learning how to summon spirits, she wanted to try it immediately!
Quartz tried to explain that she isn't experienced enough and Zecora forbidden her from summoning anything without her, but Bat'Wing wasn't listening. In the end Quartz agreed to her friend's idea.
Unfortunately, the ritual didn't go as planned. Quartz accidentaly summoned an evil spirit.
She quickly ended the ritual and trapped the spirit from where it came from, but it was too late. The evil soul already managed to curse Bat'Wing.
Zecora took care of the cursed lioness, and in the end she only grew horns. Nothing else happened to her. When everyone was sure that Bat'Wing will be alright, Zecora severely punished the two young lionesses...
Bat'Wing was alright, and she ended up even liking her new devilish appearance. But despite it all, Quartz couldn't help but blame herself for her friend's curse. If she didn't agree to start the ritual, nothing bad would happen... Bat'Wing tried to cheer her up multiple times, but nothing really helped.
After Zecora's death, Quartz took her place as the Shaman of the pride.
Unfortunately, she couldn't find a successor for her whole time as a shaman. Soon she began to age. She celt that her end is near, and there still was no one to replace her. She knew that a pride could survive without a shaman, but she didn't want to leave without leaving some kind of legacy behind. She tried to talk to her daughter, Speckle, about becoming a shaman, but she politely declined the offer.
Quartz tried searching for an apprentice among the pride's cubs, but none of them seemed to be interested in her role.
