Berry was born in Malenge's pride. The moment the king saw her he knew that she wasn't his cub. It meant that her mother, Astra, was unfaithful... At first he wanted to punish her by exile or even execution, but he knew that it wasn't worth it. She was one of his best huntresses, getting rid of her during the Hunger Season was a bad idea.
Instead, Malenge decided to get rid of her cub. Killing it would be inconsistent with his morals, so he decided to give it to Anza's pride.
The Lake Land's king happily accepted her.
Eclipse, who was taking care of the cub, named her Berry Grape after her colorful fur.
Berry later befriended another adopted cub her age, Amber . They were both taken care of by Eclipse, which made them sisters in all but blood.
When they grew up they both started collecting colorful stones and gems of any kind. They liked to trade their finds and make decors out of them. They often gave their creations to their pridemates as gifts.
Anza soon noticed their hobby, and decided to make it their job. Many of the gemstones were indeed useful, and having lions specifically meant to look for them could save Anza a lot of time. This is how Berry and Amber became Gem Collectors.
During their searches they met many new animals who taught them new things about these shiny objects that they liked to collect so much. By collecting both gems and knowledge about them, Berry and Amber became experts on the topic.

Unfortunately when Anza passed away and his son, Hawk became the new king Amber and Berry weren't allowed to be Gem Collectors anymore. The new ruler considered it a useless role. They received two options - change of profession or leaving the pride.
Both Amber and Berry knew that they wouldn't survive as loners, so they decided to become Border Guards. After years of searching for rare stones, their senses were sharpened and perfect for spotting dangers at the borders.
Berry wasn't really happy with her new job... She was good at it, but she never enjoyed it. Berry missed searching caves and collecting any kinds of shiny treasures. However, she did not dare to talk to the king about it... He was their master, the most important lion in the pride, and Berry wouldn't allow herself to be undermine his authority.

When Berry have birth to her first cubs, she just couldn't believe that these adorable, fluffy little creatures were her own. Everytime she looked at their sleepy faces she felt like her whole body was filled with love.
Unfortunately, King Hawk had different opinion... He was dissapointed in their cubs. Berry was heartbroken when he said that they'll be abandoned as soon as they won't need their mother anymore.
Despite Berry's feelings, she was unable to confront the king... Luckily, Amber didn't hesitate to argue with him. She was also one of his more trusted lionesses, so her opinion was more respected by him. Amber convinces Hawk to let Berry's cubs stay in the pride a little longer so they have a chance to prove their worth. Hawk was hesistant, but the pride was doing well lately and they surely had enough food to feed two more cubs.
And so, Berry's cubs were given one more chance of proving themselves.
Unfortunately, none of them succeeded. They had to leave the pride eventually, but Berry was glad for the extra time they got together.
