Amber was adopted from another pride that Anza often visited.
Originally, her name was Autumn, but due to the fact that there was already a lioness with that name in the pride Eclipse, Amber's caretaker, decided to change her name.
There was one more cub that Eclipse was taking care of - Berry Grape. Because of that Amber and Berry spent their whole childhood together. They were so close that the whole pride thought of them as sisters
When they grew up they both started collecting colorful stones and gems of any kind. They liked to trade their finds and make decors out of them. They often gave their creations to their pridemates as gifts.
Anza soon noticed their hobby, and decided to make it their job. Many of the gemstones were indeed useful, and having lions specifically meant to look for them could save Anza a lot of time. This is how Berry and Amber became Gem Collectors.
During their searches they met many new animals who taught them new things about these shiny objects that they liked to collect so much. By collecting both gems and knowledge about them, Berry and Amber became experts on the topic.

Unfortunately when Anza passed away and his son, Hawk became the new king Amber and Berry weren't allowed to be Gem Collectors anymore. The new ruler considered it a useless role. They received two options - change of profession or leaving the pride.
Both Amber and Berry knew that they wouldn't survive as loners, so they decided to become Border Guards. After years of searching for rare stones, their senses were sharpened and perfect for spotting dangers at the borders.
Amber had to admit that she actually enjoyed her new job. Spending her days in the cave had become boring for her lately, so patroling The Lake Land's borders was a nice change.
Her diligence and commitment made Amber one of the king's favourites. Amber herself wasn't particularly fond of him, but she knew that it would be useful for her to have a good relationship with the king. For example, she managed to convince him to keep Berry Grape's cubs in the pride for a little longer.

Amber later became a mentor of one of the king's daughters. Due to her dislike of the king, she initially distanced herself from her apprentice, but soon she grew to genuinely like her and eventually they became a great duo.
