Her mother did not want her and the king and her half-siblings hated her, leaving her to be ill-treated for most of her life. When the king of the pride learned his neighbor, king of the Glittering Pride, had given his prized daughter to the Emperor Haidar for an alliance, the king chose to do the same only with the daughter he loathed. He offered prized shark meat and pearls along with Rhiannon. Emperor Haidar was not keen on having another concubine, but it was his rabbit queen who accepted the trade. Gry had seen the truth of Rhiannon's past and offered the lioness a means of escape. Rhiannon, in turn, has slowly learned to trust another and adores the queen.
