When aspen was born her father hated her. She looked so different from everyone else.

“Nightshade, kill that nasty cub of yours!” Roared her father the moment he saw aspen.

Aspens mother Nightshade attacked Dune and ran off with the cub.

Nightshade made a home in the forest. Away from lions, while it was lonely; it was peaceful. Aspen learned a lot from her mom as a cub. She learned how to fight and hunt. Aspen heard of her father from her mom. Aspen didn’t care much about her father, after all he never played any role in her life.

When aspen was about 9 months old, her mother went out hunting for food. Like her mom always did. Aspen stayed hidden in the bushes, she was excellent at that, she waited for her mom. After a long while of Nightshade not coming back, aspen began searching for her.

She tried to scent her mother out into the savannah. She smelled blood. She froze and worried. It was her mom. She quickly followed the trail and found her mother laying dead. She was brutally killed. Aspen cried and shoved her snout in her moms pelt, breathing in her scent. She smelled another lions scent on her moms pelt, it was familar. She smelled it before, it was like her own scent but different.

Then aspen recognized it. It was dune. Her father. Aspen grew mad. How dare anyone do this to her kind mother? She new it wasn’t safe to stay there, she dragged her moms body into the woods. It took forever but she managed to do it. She laid her mom so she looked like she was sleeping and she sat watching.

One day aspen was trying to hunt, she saw a zebra and stalked it. When she got close enough to it, it ran away. She ran after it but was easily outran her.

“Do you want help?” A rough, almost barking voice said. Aspen spun around and looked at the thing. It was a hyena but white. Aspen growled. Hyenas were enemies, but this one spoke lion. “How do you know how to speak lion? And why help me?” Aspen said.

“Because i never learned to speak hyena, and because you and i are the same, maybe. I’m guessing no one wanted you because you look different?” He said slowly. Aspen winced. She nodded. She watched as he hunted a smaller rabbit.

“See thats how you hunt alone, take small things.” He said.

Aspen and cloud formed a bond. A year after
