King Tarkus found Opal while patrolling with his son Kion. The two lions found the young cub attempting to hide amount the roots of a large tree, unsuccessfully due to the bright and unnatural colors of her coat, fluffed up and scared of their approach. Talking softly, Tarkus tried to reassure the cub that she was safe and that they didn't mean any harm, and after a while the tiny cub slowly crawled out of her hiding spot. Tarkus asked where her mother was, intending to make sure she was safely returned, when the young cub's eyes welled up in tears and she rushed over to Tarkus. While doing his best to comfort her, he noticed just how thin and malnourished Opal was. He quickly made up his mind to bring Opal back to his pride, trusting Kion to finish the patrol on his own while he made sure Opal was fed and protected.
-- The young cub was born into a pride, daughter of the king and mothered by a lioness who only recently joined the pride. However, the king lashed out at her and her mother, displeased with the cubs her mother produced for her. Doing her best to protect her young cub, the lioness fled the pride, sustaining some injuries in their escape. For a few months the lioness clung on to life, barely eating in order to ensure that her young cub was feed as much as possible. However the lioness could only last so long, and she eventually succumbed to her hunger, leaving behind her young cub. Luckily, the young cub had already started to learn to hunt, so while most endeavors ended in failure, she was able to catch a small mouse or two, enough to survive until she hear the heavy paws of a large animal nearby. Remembering what her mother taught her, she fled from the noises, and hid among the roots of a large tree, however her escape must not have been as stealthy as intended, because the lions followed her and discovered her hiding space. --
After joining the pride, Olive, the oldest lioness of the pride, quickly took the young cub under her wing, raising her as if she were Olive's own. Opal spent hours listening to Olive's stories as she grew, and upon Olive's passing, she took it upon herself to continue to spread those stories so that none would ever be forgotten. Opal greatly mourns the loss of Olive, more so then any other lion in the pride despite Olive being widely missed, and considers the lioness a mother to her.
Opal eventually had a cub of her own, Amaranth, who she raised to love stories the way she did, always listening to her young cubs wonderous adventure stories, and eventually teaching Amaranth the stories passed down to her by Olive.
She has had one cub throughout her lifetime:
1st litter -
Sire outside of pride
Amaranth - Daughter
