She wasn't willing to wait day after day until her death - she wanted to DO something. After bringing up her concerns with her mother and father, they agreed that she could join the Guardians. The commander was happy to have her join, understanding her frustrations, and took the young lion under her wing. Viss quickly formed a bond with Isla, they being the two youngest amongst the Guardians, and they were nearly inseparable.
