Biography
Frenchmans Guy, leading barrel racing sire.
Leading sire Frenchmans Guy was laid to rest August 15, 2021, at the age of 34.

The palomino stallion was sired by Sun Frost and out of the Laughing Boy mare Frenchman’s Lady, she a daughter of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame mare Casey’s Ladylove. He was bred by James and Frances Loiseau of Flandreau, South Dakota, and acquired by Bill and Debbie Myers in 1989.

The Myers family, who base their Myers Performance Horses in Saint Onge, South Dakota, guided the stallion’s entire legendary career.

“Guy” lost his right eye in a farm accident early in his life, but it did not hamper his career, which began with success at barrel futurities and derbies and the PRCA and amateur rodeo circuits.

At the same time, the barrel horse “Bozo” (French Flash Hawk) and Kristie Peterson were setting the barrel world on fire. The horse was a three-quarter brother to “Guy,” as he, too, was sired by Sun Frost and out of a daughter of Casey’s Ladylove, although his mother was the Tiny Circus mare Caseys Charm. But the demand was there for breeding, and Guy would soon step into his most significant role as a sire.

He has to date sired 1,908 registered foals, including one race winner, the earners of 2,231.5 AQHA points, and progeny earnings of more than $14 million. His get include AQHA world champions Dark French Honey and Guys Dashing Jet. A sire of sires, Guy is also a leading broodmare sire, including top horses such as Epic Guy ($418,921) and Freckles Ta Fame ($397,506).

“Our hearts are broken and words cannot describe how we feel,” the Meyers family posted on social media. “For 34 years, Frenchmans Guy was a part of our family and blessed our lives. He made it possible for our family to do what we love and are passionate about.”

The family so loved Guy, that they decided to clone him. In 2011, 3 Guy clones were born on the ranch. All 3 beautiful palominos. Frenchman's Guy will forever be known as the number 1 barrel racing sire.
