Story/interaction: And now she was lost... Ruby had no idea where she might have taken a wrong turn, but she had lost her mother's scent and tracks. She chose a random direction as she ran blindly, starting to panic. What if she was lost?! WHAT IF SHE LOST HER WAY HOME?! No no no no no no... She was so lost in her haze she barely registered where she was going. That was untill she bumped into something... Or rather someone. The lioness she bumped into turned around slowly. Her sharp, cold gaze takeing in Ruby's panicked form.
"Well, look what we have here. Lost your way, sweetheart? You better hope you didn’t take a wrong turn into my territory." The lioness started to circle Ruby with a predatory grace, sizing her up. "This isn’t the kind of place you wander into and walk out unscathed. You better start talking fast, or you’ll find out just how unforgiving I can be."
Ruby fumbled over her words as she explained her situation, takeing a small step back as she went on. "P.. Please I.. I mean no harm, I.. I didn't know.. I only wanted to f-follow in my mother's pawsteps I-" Her voice was cut off by a dry, almost mocking laugh from the lioness.
"A traveler, huh? Following in mommy’s paw prints and got yourself lost. Well, kid, here’s a little lesson for free: the world doesn’t care about your plans or your lineage. You wander into the wrong pride, and they'll eat you alive—literally and figuratively." WAS SHE GOING TO EAT ME?! Ruby shook like a leaf as she looked for a way out. But was rather surprised when Beth spoke again. Ruby met her gaze and was suprised to see it soften... just a touch. Though her voice remained as tough as ever. "But if you’ve got the guts to keep going, even after getting lost, maybe you’re not completely hopeless. Just don’t expect any handouts. You want to travel through my territory? Fine. But you better learn how to stand on your own paws, 'cause I don’t babysit."
Ruby stopped her shaking. Babysit?.. How... dare she assume she needed babysitting?! Despite the dire circumstances she met Beth' s gaze with a snarl." I don't need babysitting... " Beth seemed to approve as her eyes gleamed with challenge. A smirk would tug at her lips as she stepped closer, her presence looming over the young lioness.
"Prove your strength, huh? Alright then, let's see what you're made of." She’d lower her head slightly, her voice dropping to a dangerous tone. "You think you’ve got what it takes to survive out here? Show me."
Beth would test Ruby, but not in the way Ruby might expect. Instead of physical combat, Beth would circle her, pushing her mentally, testing her resolve with sharp, biting words.
"How far are you willing to go to make it? When everything's stacked against you, do you run away like you did when you got lost, or do you fight tooth and claw to get back on track? You talk about being a traveler, but can you stand alone without leaning on your mother’s name?"
Beth's gaze would be cold and fierce, challenging Ruby to hold her ground and face her head-on without flinching. If Ruby could withstand Beth’s verbal test, her cutting words designed to poke at any weakness, she’d prove she had the mental toughness needed to survive in a harsh world like Beth’s.
"Strength isn’t just about brawn, sweetheart. It’s about not breaking, no matter what the world throws at you. So… are you gonna stand, or are you gonna crumble?" Ruby held her gaze without flinching bareing her teeth as she took Beth's words punch after punch... Did she imagine it... Was that a flicker of approval from Beth?
"Well, would you look at that. You didn’t crumble." A slow, almost proud smirk would spread across Beth’s face. "Maybe you’ve got more grit than I gave you credit for."
She’d step back, giving Ruby a bit of space. "Alright, kid. You earned yourself a spot. You can stay for a while, but don’t think that means we’re gonna braid each other’s manes and share sob stories."
"If you’re staying, you pull your weight. My pride’s no place for anyone who can’t handle the heat. Stick around as long as you want, but remember—you survive here by being tough. Got it?"
With that, Beth would turn, signaling that Ruby was now welcome, but she would always keep a watchful eye, making sure Ruby could truly handle what life in her pride had to offer. And Ruby? Well she knew for certain this will be an interesting stay.
