We’re falling apart to half time
-
How much longer...?
How much longer did he have to wander? Have his soul bound to Earth by chains? Walking the night covered in the gifts of the grateful innocents he had protected and watching the fading stars with longing. A longing born from countless years watching his rest disappear with the rising sun. Rest he would be denied until he fulfilled his duties.
Dance Dance had near forgotten what his duties even were. No matter how many people he helped, how many deeds he performed, he was trapped. He had become legend. A story told on sleepless nights to young cubs so they had a hero to aspire to be like, or perhaps he was painted as the gentle spirit who would take them to the stars. What good did it serve him? Every morning the stars faded and he was still here, stopping a young one from wandering into the path of a migrating herd or aiding an elderly huntress to shade so she could rest. Then collecting her soul when she passed and guiding her to the afterlife he was barred from entering.
He was close to giving up hope when he heard of a ruler. A Deathlord of the Jungle named Semi-Sweet. Stars may line his coat with the touch of the Demiurge himself and dusk color his mane, but there was nothing 'sweet' about this king. The blood of innocent lions was on his paws. The coat of a visiting king wrapped around his body like a blanket. A pride living in fear and Dance Dance did not even think. He acted.
The spirit moved against the reigning tyrant, challenging his rule. Eons of connection to the spirit world had boosted his power, and he was able to claim the soul of Semi-Sweet. But instead of banishing him to an afterlife of suffering...Dance Dance guided him to the stars as he had countless times before.
That's when the chains began to break. That final act of true kindness proved his worth. The spirit felt light and free for the first time since he was alive and pure joy filled his heart as he was granted one final duty. Rule the pride...help them rebuild from Semi-Sweet's control And when he passed a second time...he would be given his rest.

"Dance, Dance"
She says she's no good
With words, but I'm worse
Barely stuttered out
A joke of a romantic stuck to my tongue
Weighed down with words too
Overdramatic
Tonight, it's "it can't get much worse"
Versus "no one should ever feel like..."
I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I write them
So you need them just to get by (...emal si namhorT eoJ)
Dance, dance, we're falling apart to half time
Dance, dance, and these are the lives you love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me
You always fold just
Before you're found out
Drink up, it's last call, last resort
But only the first mistake, and I
I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I write them
So you need them just to get by
Why don't you show me the little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress, love
Dance, dance, we're falling apart to half time
Dance, dance, and these are the lives you love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me
Why don't you show me the little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress (Mattress, mattress)
I only want sympathy in the form of you
Crawling into bed with me
Dance, dance, we're falling apart to half time
Dance, dance, and these are the lives you love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love (Way they'd love)
Dance, this is the way they'd love me (Way they'd love)
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me
Dance, dance, dance, dance
Dance, dance, dance, dance
