Condor
Son of Eira
As you walk into the Eclipse Pride you can still feel Condor's steady gaze burrowing into the back of your head. you look over your shoulder to meet his stare and his chin lifts higher, an air of superiority emitting from him. "I'm not going anywhere, so you might as well be on your way," He said with authority. "One miss step and you'll have me to deal with." He gestured you to continue forward by jutting his chin up again.
Newborn : Condor is the second cub to Vesper. He was birthed during the day in the middle of the dry season.
{
Vesper was not pleased to find a male cub, especially one so unimpressive. The king thought of ending his life there and then. He pulled his cub away from his mother and turned him over for further inspection. The cub squeaked angrily and blindly attacked his rough paw. The sudden display of boldness impressed Vesper enough to leave him be, he figured the little cub would be as timid as his mother, but it seemed he figured wrong. Perhaps he would be a fit Defender. Vesper looked to Eira as she watched her son squirm helplessly and left her with only four words. "You may name him."}
Young Cub: Condor knew he wasn't his father's favorite cub. The King was grumpier with Condor, much less patient than with his hyper sisters. But that never stopped him from racing straight toward him when he laid down to rest, and pouncing on the massive lion, biting his pelt and batting at his snarling face. He always growled, but Condor knew for the most part, they were empty threats. He may not be his favorite, but the King was
his favorite sparring buddy. Varsha was a close second, she was always ready to tussle. He was getting pretty good now that he had so many opponents, but he had to be careful with Neveah and Seraphina. Their mother didn't like him much either and she was pretty protective over her cubs.
Cub: Every day Condor got a little stronger and a little bigger. He might not have been the best at training, but he always gave it his all. In fact, the only reason he failed his father's lessons is because he bit off more than he could chew. But his mouth was getting bigger too! Condor knew it wasn't by chance that he was the only male cub in the pride, many lionesses had given birth to males but the King took every single one away. Condor knew he was eating them, where else would they be other than his stomach? He saw how wide his father's mouth could stretch; he could swallow a poor cub whole. But here he was, proving his King that he made a good choice not to make him his snack. He wasn't his father's favorite, but he knew he kept him around because he was the best. And that was what Condor would always be, the best. There wasn't any room to be anything other than that.
Adolescent: Condor had been waiting for this moment since he was 4 months old. He had been waiting for his father to seek
him out, to need his help with some important duty. But he hadn't expected it to be assisting in taking the cubs of the pride's mothers away and carrying them to their death. He had always wondered what the King did with the cubs he took from Mother's Den and now he struggled to get the answer out of his head. Luckily his father didn't force him to help, but he made him watch. He said that if Condor was going to accept the honor of being his Heir, he needed to understand the responsibility of the position. That being King to the Eclipse Pride was not all glory and power but having the strength to do what needed to be done. Condor's head was left spinning afterwards. He had hoped that one day he would prove himself as heir worthy, but he didn't think his father would accept him so soon. He knew that the position wasn't a guarantee, with each cub that was born, there was a chance that an Heir more worthy in his father's eyes would replace him. But Condor was lucky enough to be the only male his father kept within the pride, and he wasn't going to disappoint him now. He was ready to fill whatever role his pride needed; he was ready to be the Heir to the great King of the Eclipse Pride. Condor was ready to give his last breath for he only family he'd ever known.
Adult: {2 years old} - Condor sat patiently, his back as straight as he could manage, his shoulders pulled back, chest out, and head held high as every member of their pride trickled in around him. The King had called everyone that was able to gather together for a pride announcement. His mother already knew and had picked a spot nearby, trying to contain her excitement. He could practically see her pride pouring out of her pelt. Varsha sat within hearing distance, flashing him a big smile and a wink. "You look good," she whispered rather loudly, and he couldn't help but smirk.
"My Pride," Vesper spoke. "I've gathered you here today to witness a first in our pride, the appointing of the title Heir. As the only subordinate male in the pride, Condor will be, from now on, known as my Heir. With this title, he is an extension of myself, and will be treated as such, for he is my son." That single word made Condor's limbs feel weak with joy, but he summoned his strength and kept his stiff posture. "Should I fall in battle or death comes to take me prematurely, Condor will me your new King." Vesper lifted his head and roared, his mother following soon after. Overwhelmed with emotion, he joined in with his loudest, proudest roar. The night filled with the pride's roars, their voices echoing inside his chest, and when their cries of approval settled it felt as if Condor had been reborn.
