“MAMA!!! LET GO!” Abyzou cried out for her mother, wails and sobs filled the skies, they were heart wrenching, if she had just stayed put like what her mother told her to do. This wouldn’t have happened, it would’ve been like the other days, playing around with her mother, just the two of them, basking in the sun, eating a hearty meal, that was what it should’ve been, but she disobeyed, she left the field, and now as she cried, her mother’s screams got further and further away, until it faded away into the night.
The humans that took her away were efficient with their kidnapping, the tactics used to lure her had worked for many before her, the many lives lost to the wicked actions of these men. She struggled, fighting for her life, day and night, she never rested, not even for a moment. It was difficult, having to fight for her life, her sanity, her memories. She didn’t even know if she would ever see her mother again, but she knew that her mother would never go down without a fight, and her mother had taught her that very well.
It was odd, the men that took her, it didn’t seem like they were in a hurry to do what they smuggled her for, whatever they had planned seemed to have halted for whatever reason, and she didn’t know why. Still, she wasn’t about to find out why by sticking around for too long. Abyzou, now an adolescent, had bided her time to come up with an escape plan, a plan that was foolproof, and that would guarantee her freedom, her way home.
While the plan was brilliant, it would take her months to succeed, it took time, but it was the result that mattered in the end, and what an end it was. An adult Abyzou broke from her bindings, and once she was out, there was no stopping her. She brutally mauled every last one of the humans that had taken her, maybe they had thought that she would be more obedient as time passed, maybe they thought she would forget her roots and be tamed, it didn’t matter. With the last of the humans taken down, she finally let out a sigh of justice, it felt like she had finally done what she needed to, to save any others that would befall the same fate as she did.
But before she could fully relax, and set out to find her mother, a glowing portal opened up beside her. The suddenness of the situation caused her to jump back, she became even more wary as an odd looking lion walked out from the glowing circle. Gazing at her, the lion gave a calm greeting, letting her know he meant no harm, then proceeded to ask for her hand in marriage, stating that he was enamoured with her prowess, and had fallen for her perseverance and determination to survive. “Why me?” Abyzou was curious, there would’ve been many others like her, ones that would’ve done the same in her place, but he had chosen her. “...because it’s you,” he smiled lovingly, and it was all she needed to accept his proposal to be his Queen of the Underworld.
Life was amazing, it was different from the living world, yet it felt like home, a loving husband to boot, nothing was amiss. Yet, even though she had everything she could want down in the underworld, there was still one thing that she missed, one she didn’t think she would ever have a chance to meet again, her mother. She was now bound to hell, and knowing how her mother would never give up till she found her, she could only stare off into the distance sorrowfully, hoping her mother would find some solace eventually. Calling for her next subject to enter the throne room listlessly, the figure that entered the room was the last person she expected to see. Confused, flabbergasted, yet ecstatic, it was unbelievable, “Mother…you’re here…”
The gentle and loving smile her mother gave was all the reason she needed to break from her throne, and run over to her, giving her a big hug, softly weeping in her embrace. “Abyzou…my dear child, look how much you’ve grown, I’ve missed you so…” After all this time, the suffering they had to endure, the time spent searching for each other, had all come down to this joyous and peaceful reunion between mother and daughter. A happy ending for all.
