Venus couldn’t help but notice the other lion from the opposite side of the clearing. Neptune, his name was. Saturn had named him after a planet as well, but the male caught his eye more than any other lioness did. Neptune felt the same, and Venus knew it. But they had to swallow it, swallow the fact that they’d lay for hours, just preening each other. One of them was eventually going to lead the pride. The other would remain by their side calmly, nothing more than a patroller.

Venus sighed, glancing wistfully at Neptune. Sure, he was violent to others, but gods above, was he beautiful to him. He wished one of them was a female. Maybe then, there’d be a better chance at an actual life together.

Venus licked up the leaf. ‘Cub sex changer’, was what he was sold. He could feel himself start to change, and shivered in surprise when he felt the change. It wasn’t unwelcome. He’d always liked the idea of being in a different body. Slinking up to Neptune, he nipped at his lover’s neck, and Neptune blinked in surprise at the sight of his changed appearance, but nonetheless flicked his tail in affection, covering Venus in licks and kisses.

Venus, freshly an adult, tossed and turned in his sleep, restless with an odd form of need. His tail flicked agitatedly, he became much clingier towards Neptune - which wasn’t exactly unwelcome to the typically cruel lion. Even cubs started looking appealing to him. Their tiny little paws, how they would yawn so sweetly… it distracted him, and so did the uncomfortable sensations, almost painful. Neptune, realizing what his lover needed, ducked under the leaves of their den entrance, pleased at seeing Venus sprawled out over their shared nest.
