To appease him, Andromeda was chained to a rock as a sacrifice. Perseus, flying by after slaying Medusa, saw her, fell in love, and promised to save her in exchange for her hand in marriage. He killed the sea monster, often using Medusa’s head, and freed Andromeda. They married and had children, becoming ancestors of heroes like Hercules.
