cute story including my king made by 89237
It was the sunset’s final rays that greeted the lion first when he reached The Serengeti, signalling that the day was coming to an end. Slight fatigue hung around him like a veil, and he barely moved the moment he found himself far from the lands that he reigned.
He’d passed The Serengeti countless times before, though never took a proper look at it. Setting his paws upon a thriving land so full of greenery and wildlife felt so different, so new, like a breath of fresh air. The cold air of the night filled his lungs as he took it in, and Umbreon thought of the rumours that had flown around like the wind. To his distaste and misfortune, the rumours left an unwelcoming and heavy taste on his tongue.
Yet, of course, rumours are just rumours — and Umbreon was far from these nonsensical wordings that had left other lions’ mouths.
As he took his time to take the serene atmosphere in and calm his buzzing thoughts down, a lioness, smaller in size, was gazing at the stars in the distance. He wondered if approaching her would disturb her peace, but still walked up to her regardless.
“Mind some company?” He asked in lieu of a greeting. The lioness, turning, looked at him with wide eyes, as if she had seen a ghost.
“You,” she whispered, all the colour on her face drained. “Y-You’re that heartless killer they all say! Stay back!” She snarled, defensive in her stance.
“Oh? Does my reputation precede me? How flattering,” he snickered, wings flapping in a faux happy gesture before the smug look on his face dropped. “Yeah, no, I’m just messing with you. Me, a heartless killer? Hah! These lands would’ve been red instead of green if I was.”
The lioness, bewildered, gradually lowered her guard. “You’re... not as what they say, then?”
“Would you believe me if I said that I’m not?”
She laughed. “You’d kill me this instant.”
“Oh, I would and I could,” he smiled, impishness in his tone. He scooted closer. “But I won’t.”
“You’re friendly,” she commented, genuine, her tail flicking behind her in the pleasant exchange they were having. “How sure are you?”
Laughing, he lifted a paw to gently place it upon her muzzle — a playful bat if anything, and the lioness held back a chuckle. “What a ruthless killer you are!”
“Am I?” Another playful bat, and this time, she returned with one of her own. The both of them went on like this for a while, each time their movements growing to a full-on friendly spar.
As they tussled and rolled, laughter fluttered through the air akin to the stardust above their heads. With exhaustion coming in as soon as their adrenaline went, the lioness pinned him down the moment they were facing one another.
“Evil lion down!” There was a proud grin on her face, so contagious that it made him smile.
“Evil lion down,” he admitted defeat. His wings slowly wrapped around the lioness’ form in a warm, sheltered hug. “Thank you.”
“What for?”
“Giving me a chance to prove myself,” he sighed, content in the comfortable position they were in and just sharing an enjoyable warmth. “That I’m not some evil killer on the loose.”
Humming in a consensus, she slowly pushed herself off of him. “And you’re not. I really enjoyed our time together. It’s unfortunate that I have to go.”
“So soon?” He was reluctant to stand up, to see her go. He enjoyed her company as much as she did and wanted her to be around for a while longer.
“I have to let everyone else know about you. I wouldn't want these rumours to grow as bad as they already have been.” She rubbed her head under his chin. Automatically, he lowered his in a parting hug.
“Will I ever see you again?”
“We might. Who knows? But remember me whenever you look at the night sky. No matter where we are, the stars bear witness to our friendship. I’ll be with you in spirit.”
Alas, people come and go — but to hear this from her was enough for him.
“I’ll see you around then,” he said.
And so, with a big smile, she left. He swore that he could see the stars reflecting in her eyes that night.
