Biography
Hematite is a gentle, proud lion; he loves his pride dearly, but will make hard decisions for them when he has to. The guilt of having to see off many of his lionesses for the sake of their cubs' survival, comfort and space weighs on him, but he knows he can always see them again on the nature preserve they now rest at.
The Giving Tree is Hematite's most sacred place. Not knowing his own parents, he understands the plight of the cubs left there and takes one in at every chance he gets, space permitting. His first mate, Citrine, who now spends her days peacefully at a nearby national park, helped him raise his first adopted daughter, a beautiful lioness named Beryl alongside their own daughters, Carnelian and Chalcedony.

Having begun his pride during the great August drought, he wears the feathers of bearded vultures to remember his pride's struggles and motivate himself and his lionesses to thrive through any hardship, as the vultures do.
