~ Backstory ~

Artemis was born the runt of her litter. Tormented by her litter mates for her small size , she was often pushed around and picked on. She had to learn how to survive through what little luck she could get. As they grew older and got bigger and stronger, she learned to use her small size to her advantage. She learned to stay hidden when possible and to never let any of them see her unless it was necessary. Even then, she made sure to always be in the shadows.
Their king was known for his cruel behavior towards the lionesses in his pride. He'd randomly snap at cubs if they walked too close to him, he'd kill off adolescents if they even looked in his direction and he over works his lionesses by constantly sending them on hunting trips.
While on her way back from the watering hole, Artemis had accidentally bumped into her king. He glared down at her angrily before lunging at her throat. Her vision faded to black as he thrashed his head side to side with her grasped firmly between his teeth.
When Artemis awoke, she found herself standing on the edge of a clif, looking over an endless expanse of water. The wind whipped violently against her fur, chilling her to the bone. She shivered slightly, trying to warm up her body. She turned around when she heard the crunching of some leaves. Standing there was the most beautiful liones she's ever seen. Her eyes were as clear as the blue sky, her fur looked soft to the touch and her pelt.. it looked like the Galaxy.
"Don't fret my child. For I am not here to harm you." She said soothingly, her voice rumbling deeply. Artemis was speechless, not only did this lion look like nothing she's ever seen, but she felt completely safe around her. "Where am I?" Artemis questioned. "You're in a land of magic." "Am I.. dead?" Artemis whispered quietly. "It's not your time, my dear." She replied, gently touching Artemis' ear. Artemis sighed heavily, relaxing into her touch. "Then why am I here?" "Because I've chosen you." Artemis blinked in confusion. "My sweet child, I've chosen you to save your pride." Artemis tilted her head in confusion again. "Save my pride?"
"Yes dear, your king will be the downfall of your pride. If he isn't stopped, soon there will be no lion or cub left in your territory." Artemis' ears perked up at that comment. "And you want me to defeat him..?" She watched the strange looking liones with caution. "How though, I'm no match for him.." She stated, looking down at her paws. "My child, it is your destiny. " That was all she said before leaning forwards and touching noses with Artemis.
After that, she woke up back in her own territory. Hearing gasps from around her, she looked around to see her pride members and king looking at her in surprise. Confused as to why everyone was looking at her, she looked down at her paws and gasped in her own surprise. Her pelt was exactly like the strange lioness she had met. Suddenly remembering what she was told, she turned to her king and launched her small body at him. Sending him toppling over, they scuffled. After a few minutes, Artemis roared letting everyone know of her victory. With her new found strength, she now leads the Sunset Valley Pride.

Artemis is a galactic Greek girl's name. Artemis was the Greek goddess of animals, the hunt and the moon.
