Akon was born into a litter of normal lions, but his appearance made him stand out. His mother, fearful that he would be rejected by the pride, hid him in a secret den. Later, during a failed hunt, the lion pride was confronted by a fierce coalition of hyenas. In the chaos, the hyenas found the cub and took him to their den. Raised among them, he learned their language and philosophy of life: strength, cunning and survival of the fittest. As he grew up, his lion instincts began to emerge. He felt an irresistible attraction to those he could see from time to time strolling near the hyena lands and to freedom. But the hyenas saw him as one of them and held him back with threats and violence. During an incursion into the territory of his biological herd, he crosses paths with his brother. Recognition is immediate, despite the years of separation and the different lives they have led. The encounter and subsequent events plunge him into a deep crisis, as he tries to figure out how to be the best possible leader for the pack.
