♦️Bastion The Ringmaster♦️
If I had to tell this story, this is what I would’ve told you. Wild, I know, but trust me, this really happened, honest! I may be a ringmaster of a circus, but I’m no liar! So here goes-
It was a stormy night, so dark that even I couldn’t see, and I have the best vision around, that I know off, I didn’t know many people, I mean, where would an orphan adolescent go to make friends? I sure didn’t, but you know what? Even if I knew I was in trouble, there was no way I’d back down, I’m no quitter! So into the storm I went! Gosh it was cold, and wet, and dark, and I was lost. I had no idea where I was going, but I had to go somewhere, anywhere, I didn’t want to die, not yet, not like this.
I think I passed out at some point, the details are a little fuzzy, but what I do remember, were those big beautiful pink eyes. Gosh, they were mesmerizing, I almost couldn’t say anything when she asked me, “Hey! Are you okay? Are you hurt? That was some storm huh?” Her voice, gosh her voice was so smooth and sweet, like honey butter, it was beautiful, she’s beautiful. I sort of choked on my own words, “Uh…yeah, yeah! I’m oka-” then my tummy had to interrupt that wonderful moment, I was so embarrassed, but she laughed! Have you heard her laugh? I’m telling you, nothing like you’ve ever heard, it could rival angels!
I’ll spare you the small and intimate details, but we connected pretty fast, she took me back to her pride, gave me food and let me stay, with permission from her father of course, HoneyGold, the King, or well, I’d say he was more ringmaster than king, but a very kind guy, and understanding of where I came from. That’s how I met the circus, the people, the pride, my incredible and gorgeous wife! Have I told you how amazing she is? Let me tell you, she- what? Story? Oh yeah, sorry, fine, moving on.
They didn’t chase me away, everyone welcomed me, and I slowly started to feel like I fit in, like I was meant to be there and the storm that day had guided me here on purpose, and you know what? Me and Redrum, the girl that saved me, and my now wife, we got super close, she loved my jokes, and I, her laughter, she’d show me around, watch the acts together, have some private moments to ourselves, it felt like a dream I didn’t want to wake up from, but I had to.
HoneyGold, he had become like a father to me, he cared, and so did I. He got sick, like really sick, and to make matters worse? The circus wasn’t doing so well. It had some local popularity before Paw got sick, but only enough to keep it afloat. With his health going down the river, it was hard, for him, for her, for everyone. I couldn’t do it, I couldn’t let this be the end, I didn’t want to say goodbye. Doing my best, I comforted her, the only way I knew how, by being beside her and holding her close. I’m glad she could find comfort with me, even during those hard times. As for Paw? One day he called me over, “Bastion, come here, I’d like to talk to you. You have been there for my precious daughter when I couldn’t, and I thank you. I see potential in you, your determination, your resolve. I’d like you to take over, in my place, my circus, my legacy. You are the son I never had, and I hope you will be one day. I know it’s not much, but please, take care of everyone, for me, for my daughter…”
It was hard, those words, that responsibility all of a sudden, it was like a huge rock had been put on my shoulders, and I had to carry it for the rest of time. However, I knew, I knew I couldn’t let them down, so I tried. At first I tried figuring out stuff on my own, but my talented wife helped me along, guided me through things that I didn't even know existed. Then Killian, my good buddy, a great friend of mine that I met at the circus, started teaching me the acts, their schedule, and what they could do. Slowly, but surely, I got the hang of it, and I didn’t even know I had talent for marketing and rebranding, but here we are! Today is finally the day we see all our hard work paid off!
“Dear, the tent will be opening soon, you should get ready,” Redrum pops her head around the corner, “are you telling the kids stories of the circus again?” I smiled at the sight of my lovely wife, gorgeous as can be, “Of course I am! They have to know how it all went down!” She chuckled, that lovely grin would melt me where I stand. “Don’t take him too seriously, half of it is exaggerated,” before I could retort, she turned to me, “and you! 10 minutes!” I give a quick salute, and hurriedly changed for the show, it was time.
As the entrance of the tent opens, the circus starts filling with voices of excitement and anticipation. Everyone takes their seat, filling up what was once empty and barren with laughter and joy. They patiently await for the acts to begin. A loud ‘POP!’ sounds throughout the tent, and clouds of fog start filling the arena stage, “WELCOME EVERYONE!” I appear in a puff of glitter, flowers and smoke, with a massive grin on my face, I turn all around to view the audience, my voice ringing true, “THANK YOU FOR COMING! WITHOUT FURTHER ADO! LET THE SHOW BEGIN!” I tip my hat and let the performers do what they do best. The show must go on after all…
