Introduction:
Mkali is a patient and fair king. He is a selfless lion who helps out any animal in need that he comes across. As a result, he is highly regarded by the majority of the savannah's inhabitants. Though his kind-hearted nature leads the more snarky members of his pride to call him a "goody-two-paws", his willingness to take in abandoned cubs and chased lionesses, as well as his leniency towards them, puts him in high regard of the rest of the adult members of his pride, even if some individuals prefer not to admit it.
He has a particularly close bond with the first female cub he adopted from the Giving Tree, Feisty, even if she hesitates to admit her liking for the king. Though he quickly became the butt of a few of her (sometimes crass) jokes, she secretly sees him as a good father figure and a lion who she looks up to.
Though Mkali is not the strongest lion around, what he lacks in strength he makes up for with his smarts and admirable ability to negotiate with other animals and defuse tense situations. This has proven especially useful when he has faced times of hardship, such as the seemingly never-ending dry season of August 24' and the disturbing omens of doom in September 24'. He particularly likes the Harbinger and has a quiet admiration for him. He also feels a sense of kindred to the mysterious being, who, underneath his offputting exterior, has good intentions.
Mkali is soft-spoken and rarely raises his voice. When he is not out exploring, he often makes rounds to check on the members of his pride and cheer them up if needs be.
Aside from ensuring the general wellbeing of every member of his pride and ensuring it's smooth running, it is clear to see that one of Mkali's deepest passions is taking care of and raising the cubs in his pride. He diligently encourages all cubs in their training and continues to impart his wisdom to them as they grow older.
Relationship with (M-006) Ginger Pariah:
Mkali's first sub-male, Ginger Pariah, was one such cub born into the pride from the result of a rendezvous with a savage lion in August. It became clear in infancy that Ginger Pariah had inherited an evil personality from his wandering father. However, Mkali couldn't shake a gut feeling that the little cub, despite being so different from himself in spirit, had potential.
Upon reaching cubhood, Mkali therefore chose Ginger Pariah to become his first sub-male, and he tried his best to foster a good relationship with him. Though Ginger Pariah remained rather withdrawn from Mkali up into his early adulthood, he took being designated to such an important role with the weight it deserved. He was often praised by Mkali and the pride for being such an attentive student. Inside however, Ginger Pariah was fighting with his own evil nature, which he had done his very best to try to suppress around the king, for fear of being kicked out of the pride.
As Ginger Pariah settled into his role of sub-male, he began to open up to Mkali more. Perhaps being able to release some of his innate savage nature by killing animals on patrol and fighting intruders within the pride's borders felt like a long-overdue release for him.
