The whole of the Savannah were bustling with excitement and fear of the joyful news. Deep in the heart of the plains, lay Kgosi's Pride, one of the most feared pride's in Africa. Queen Udo, Kgosi's beloved mate had gave birth to the Pride's heir - Kgosi's first son. The Pride was pleased as they no longer had to worry about the heir when Kgosi went to the stars, yet other animal residents of Africa were in fear as there was now another lion on the prowl. Udo was a good and caring mother, and as she licked her new born son's head she gazed into the setting sun, which was sinking behind the hills as she thought for a name. Sun...she purred and breathed in her cub's sweet, milky scent and purred "Samson..." thoughtfully. And so Samson it was.
Samson was not the most strongest cub the pride had seen, he was unsteady at running and feeble at play-fighting with other fellow cubs. This slightly darkened the Pride's hope as they all needed a strong leader for their King, yet only time could tell whether the scrawny, little cub would ever surpass his father. Cub-hood passed in a flurry, along with Adolescent-hood and finally it was the day for Samson to challenge the great and mighty Kgosi. Samson parted through the vines and was led through to the clearing, surrounded my rocks where the pride residents lay, waiting for the fight. Samson felt fear tingle in his paws and his whiskers quivered. He looked up at his father who was waiting, standing up tall with his chest puffed out. Samson knew the consequences - if he failed, he would be banished from the Pride...forever.
The battle was long and hard, the chances didn't look good for Samson. He felt his body shudder as he was slammed against the ground and began to cough up dust. His mane was in tufts, fur was shredded and was lathered in cuts where his father's claws had stroked him. Trying to swallow with a dry mouth, Samson looked around him at the staring, waiting eyes. His chocolate brown ones latched onto the sea-green eyes of his concerned mother, whom looked horrified at the fight she had witnessed. He blinked his apologies and tried to move his stiff muscles and weakly stood up - before being immediately slammed down again. Samson couldn't even raise his head. His father shook his head, feeling ashamed to of fathered such a poor excuse of a lion. Kgosi sat on his haunches in the center of the arena and looked around at the pride and spoke.
"My opponent is no longer fit to fight and he has lost the battle miserably. This lion, Samson, is no longer a son of I, Kgosi. He is a disgrace to the pride and shall be banished from here for as long as he lives. If caught on our territory, none of you exchange friendly greetings, he is to be attacked on sight without hesitation. Ada! Chara! Get him up." Two young lioness's who were once cub-friends of Samson stepped forwards, snarling and growling at the weak lion who was beginning to sit up. They grabbed hold of his blood soaked fur and yanked him up roughly so he faced the King.
"Be gone, Samson. Run wherever your paws take you and don't look back." snarled Kgosi, a burning fierceness in his eyes. Samson turned his head and walked out of the clearing, ignoring the nips and spitting and snarling and swipes from the ex-members of his once-pride. He passed Udo and he turned to speak, but Udo's friend smacked him hard across the face.
"Do not speak to the Queen, you filthy scum." hissed the lioness. Samson turned away and carried on walking, never to look back on the pride.
Of course, Samson urged himself to become stronger, and he became King of his own pride soon enough and he treasures every moment. No one knows about his horrible past but now you do.
