King Dionysus, also known as Dion to those close to him, has brought a very refreshing perspective to a pride that was previously ruled by fear. The eccentric, androgynous and flirty King encourages the members of the pride to indulge in fun and pleasure. He also asks them to express any concerns they have, so a solution can be found together. He judges others not on how they can benefit him, but on how they treat those around them. Dion loves to have a fun time and there has been a significant increase in partying since he took the throne. Nobody is quite sure where Dionysus came from - he arrived when they needed him the most.
Dion arrived at the Cascade pride as a teenager while the previous King Silenus was still in power. While he was apprehensive with the way Silenus ruled, he found himself drawn to the pride. As he settled into his new home he found himself saddened by the way the other lions were treated. Dion is a hedonist at heart, and he wanted to give everyone the opportunity to indulge in this too. Why spend all your life causing pain, when you could be causing pleasure? With this realisation, he put a plan in motion.
First, he proved himself to be extremely capable and useful as a sub male. This got him closer to Silenus and it wasn't long before he was named heir as the King got further on in age. While Johann was much older than him, Johann had no interest in being the heir to the throne, so the choice was obvious. Through his position as heir, he began to sway Silenus' decisions in subtle ways. Silenus was both baffled and enthralled by this effeminate lion's ability to solve issues between pride members in a way that Silenus' lack of empathy never could.
Very quickly, Dionysus was extremely popular with the other pride members. He encouraged hedonism and the persuit of pleasure, often offering to distract Silenus for a while so the pride could party and relax. He also bonded with many pride members in a more intimate and sensual way too, showing them feelings they had not indulged in before. The other lions were drawn to his androgynous, effeminate nature - his unique gender expression and understanding of others emotionally, physically and sensually was very refreshing to a pride used to an iron fist. The collective disdain towards Silenus grew in the quiet conversations the pride members had out of earshot of the King. Everyone was eagerly anticipating the day Dion would finally take the throne.
When Silenus finally died, old and lonely, the pride felt a collective joy they hadn't felt since before his reign. Once the burial had been taken care of, it seemed only fitting that they hold a ceremony to celebrate a lion so fond of rituals and parties ascending to the throne. The celebration lasted for days, during which Dionysus was adorned with a necklace of flowers and draped in jewellery and wraps to match his ethereal aura. A brand new era began for the pride, one filled with festivities, joy, pleasure and parties.
