Nereus's Den

Your paws had carried you a long way, and the crashing sound of waves against a shore was only getting louder as the trees thinned out. For one reason or another, whether it be trying to find all of the newly introduced jaguars to the land and bring them back to their tree, trying to figure out what was around your territory, looking for new members to recruit to your pride, or simply going for a stroll, you had ended up near the coastline. Getting closer to the sands, the smell of other lions was able to be picked up on the wind, as well as a few nests spread about between the trees, though no permanent beds. Upon breaking through the tree line, there was the impression of multiple pairs of paws. Clearly, a pride had either been through here, or was making it a temporary home.

A loud roar gave you your answer to where the Pride was, a large lioness with sleek gray-purple fur that was broken up by white splotches loped directly towards you, stopping short of being within swiping range. Ears pinned back to her head, she circled you, clearly unfriendly.

"Kraken. That is no way to treat a guest, especially when we have not scent marked any temporary borders." The voice seemed playful... but you couldn't tell where it was coming from. You didn't have the chance to look around for it either, not with how you had to keep your gaze focused on the possibly aggressive lioness circling you. "Leave them be. I'm sure they mean no harm."

The lioness- Kraken, you assumed- finally left you alone, instead moving towards the water and sitting with her back to the waves. Before your very eyes, the water broke slowly, taking shape and coalescing into a lion like shape. With every step the form took out of the water, the more solid they seemed to become. When all four paws were on the stand, a lion with a moving pelt, seemingly liquid, stood in front of you. They offered a kind smile, ears flicking as they continued their approach.
"I'm the king of this pride, I guess. My name is Nereus." He offered a forepaw, the black oil like substance beneath his glass like skin pulling back to offer only the water like pelt. There didn't seem to be an ounce of aggression in his body, at least compared to Kraken who glared at you from the water. If you chose to take his paw, he would lower his head and give your paw a gentle nose boop- huh. Polite. "I know I may not look like the most conventional lion, but I was cursed when I was young. It's a long story, but if you would ever like to hear it, all you would need to do is ask."

Turning his back on you in either clear foolishness or a show of trust, he padded back to the water, tail curling over his back and a sigil of pestilence catching the sunlight. "To make things short, I was once a lion. I don't know what I am now. I need the water, but if I touch oil, it never leaves my body or recycles like the water does. Eventually, I will be taken up by it. Maybe... if I collect Oil, remove it from ecosystems, I can make up for the reason I was cursed. We move often, chase disasters that humans cause."

He plopped onto his side, stretching out on the beach and regarding you with pink-blue eyes. "Well, how may we help you?"
