Pride's History

The Hi'ilani Pride was created years ago by a dappled king named Jatau. Jatau had stumbled across a dried watering hole, surrounded by dead trees and many various skeletons, connected to a similarly dried peninsula that connected to the Atlantic. A small pride of lions, led by an elder shamaness, had lived nearby, burying their dead into the drought-stricken waterhole. The pride was weak, ribs poking out from their dulled fur, gazing at the male with sunken eyes.
Jatau was heartbroken.
Taking it upon himself to help the lionesses, Jatau began to bring nourishment to the land and hunt prey, due to just how weak the lionesses were.
Within several months, the pride and land began to flourish.
Palm trees from distant lands grew from the sand, providing shade for the lions. The water returned to the waterhole, allowing prey of all kinds to travel for a drink. The shamaness, grateful to see the land back to its former glory, thanked Jatau for his good nature, crowning him as the new king. She later died from natural causes, being sent away into the depths of the peninsula. Her name was Hi'ilani.
As a tribute to the kind-hearted lioness, Jatau renamed the pride in her honor.

Hanalei was her last living descendant.

Late into the night, years after the Pink Skyking's reign began, a loud wail sounded throughout the shore. Hanalei was found dead in his cave, having passed away while the white snow blanketed the oceanside. Without an heir old enough to ascend the throne, the pride was desperate.
A young lioness named Kihawahine had been passing through the territory weeks earlier, worn and starving. Hanalei took pity on the golden lioness and personally took her in, showing her the best spots to hunt. She was also the one to cry out when she found him.
The eldest pridemember, a dark tigon named Talia, crowned Kihawahine as the new monarch of the pride, although she was extremely hesitant to do so. There was no other choice- Kihawahine had been named a child of Hanalei, and therefore next in line.

Kihawahine reigned over the Hi'ilani Pride for nearly 10 years, before suffering a near fatal wound at the hands of poachers. She managed to limp her way back to the pride's shelter and be healed... however her wounds were too great and sapped her strength to lead. With her dying breath, Kihawahine announced Corentin- a son of Daphne- as king.
