You are loved. You are wanted. You are important. And you cannot be replaced. It's never too late. I don't leave these words here as clichés or to make myself seem like I'm a bigger person than I am, but just to express my genuine love to other people who may feel like they don't have much or many people to listen to them. There's enough pain in this world as is, I'd rather give you hope even if it's through this. No guilt trips, no political or religious allegory, just one human heart to another.

This part of Sudan is lush with wildlife, an oasis in the vast desert nearest the Nile. You don't see any others of the pride here because they're all laying in wait in the Nubian pyramids ahead. Eyes and heads flicker at the edge of your vision, glancing at you cautiously, a silent escort to the king's main lair. They're so well concealed that you can't even catch a whiff of lion on the wind.

The first and biggest lion to arrive was the king himself, a ferocious, huge Ferus with a black mane. Striding with eyes of the Sign and all the contained power of forbidden secrets, he bares his fangs and smirks with head held high, almost like he expects you to suddenly bow down, as if you're a new subject for him to order about. But even if you don't do that, he doesn't hold back the confidence in his eyes, the subtle warning in his voice.

"Visitor...friend," he calls in a voice like warm honey, soothing to your senses. "A smell on the wind told us you were coming. I see you had no trouble. But take heed: we are the mightiest felines you will see in this part of the kingdom. I cannot speak for others, but I will allow you to trade and breed, to drink and feast and sleep with us, if that is what you wish. All I ask for in return is consideration...and perhaps a mutual partnership. One day, before I'm gone, I'd like to leave my mark on this kingdom. You are welcome to stay and see it."
