After being warned several times by close by prides you finally reach the swamps borders.
Thick forests of reed and fog obscuring the vast wetlands before you, hesitating for a second, your paw finally hits the cold soggy ground sending a tingle up your spine. With night time falling you really don't wanna be stuck in the marshes but by all accounts pushing through is the shortest way back home. If it weren't for those damned submales and their creepy tales of a ghost ruling the swamp. Be they exist or not, a ghost can't rule a territory like a lion you mumble to yourself as you cautiously paw for ground that won't give way as you step on it.
Your hair stands stiff *click-click* the subtle noise reaches your ears and that cursed ghost story is back in your mind "you can hear the ghosts chains clicking on silent nights" - that blasted submale and his stories. With nothing happening you proceed your muddy trip, ugh why would anyone wanna life here anyway your paws are soaked. Concentration on not losing what you hope is a trail the thick fog engulfing you doesn't register right away up until you notice how blurry everything has gotten... And lights? You can't smell human but there are lights bobbing in the mist like fish in water. You stop and peer at them not daring to step from where you're standing, a shadow moves between them, a low voice, a chuckle carried by the fog. Eyes on the blurr and muscles tense you wait - "You seem lost" the voice echoes too close for comfort, you want to pounce but where and on what? "Foreign travelers are rare in our lands" the low purr is followed by a muzzle as grey as the mist itself, stoney eyes and big grey feline body attached to it. Easing in your stance you take in the lion that emerged from the fog right in front of you, he's still kinda blurry somehow. He slowly sways his tail has he takes you in *click-click* the pearls on the little band attached to it moving with the motion. The eerie lights bobbing around him you make haste to follow the king of the foggy lands, for some reason it seems wiser to stay within his subtle glow than staying behind. As you emerge from a reed forest you finally step onto solid dirt, "We have a guest" the grey one thrills as he greats a bunch of dark lionesses emerging from a cave.
Still unsure about their king you cautiously but happily follow as some lionesses invite you to show you the resting area - at least there's no ghost, right?
