Gabriël's Den

Welcome to the Nepheline Pride As you explore you push through the scrub brush and finally break out into an open savanna. The early evening sun turns the grass into a sea of gold swaying in the wind and your eyes track up to a massive kopje sending an ever growing shadow across the plain. Antelope are scattered around and a waterhole with some small trees tempts you closer. As you sit under the shaded acacia and watch the clouds roll by you start to notice how full of life the kopje is. It’s full of trees and plants, small mammals and birds. Upon even closer inspection there seem to be caves between the rocks. You close your eyes and bask in the sun for another moment and before you have the chance to stretch and be on your way you hear a low voice behind you. The hair on your back bristles and you jump up ready to fight for your life. The two lions standing behind you are both well fed and boasting impressive manes.


“Welcome, traveler” the larger of the two steps forward and you notice he has… wings? They are black as the night and fade into his fur which almost looks dusted in soot. He gives an otherworldly aura and even wears a human charm on his neck “don’t worry we aren’t here to fight you” he chuckles and gestures back to the watering hole, where some wildebeest have taken up the remaining shade while your back was turned. “Please continue drinking”


Before you can decide whether to turn your back to these lions or not a hunting party bounds through the scrub and into the clearing. “Gabriel, sir!” Yells one of the lionesses, panting. Now that you see her more closely she only vaguely resembles a lioness. Her fur is dark and mottled and she has the horns and wings of a demon. Gabriel, the king, and his subordinate spin around to greet the women. They whisper for a moment and the nepheline briefly turns back to you.


“Please enjoy a rest, and feel safe traveling these surrounding lands. my brother lives to the northeast and allies to the east and west. I wish I could stay longer, but there is something I need to attend to. Until we meet again” and with that he turns back toward the group of lionesses and heads toward the scrub again. As quickly as you were greeted you are alone again.


The wildebeest grunt in indifference as you sit back in the shade to enjoy the water before you move on.
