It wouldn't be long now. Kuaminika could feel it. The aches had slowly gotten worse- though he would never allow an enemy to see it- and his once glistening cream coat had found an element of dullness.
Now, as his old eyes looked over his pride, a hint of a smile touched his face. Several lionesses with speckles like stardust across their backs were chatting in a group while their cubs pounced each other. The old lion's gaze moved across some adolescents play-fighting, and came to rest on a young onyx lioness. Manane was a lovely thing, and Kahless had certainly taken a shine to her.

Kuaminika looked over at the young male standing beside him. Kahless had proven invaluable these last few months. As Kuaminika's strength had slowly failed, his grandson had refused to leave his side. He had already fought off several rogue lions wanting to take advantage of the pride's weakness. Kahless was as fine an heir as any king could hope for- with a coat like the sky on a clear night, and well in the strength of his youth. Kuaminika could only hope that he had taught his grandson well, and Kahless would choose to be a good and kind leader. Soon... Soon Kuaminika would slip away alone in the night and leave this young male to care for the pride on his own.
