Jumma's Den

Born into a struggling pride, Jumma was abandoned as an adolescent after being blinded by a snake attack, deemed unfit for the pride. His mother had dropped him into a dusty cave under the impression he would waste away. With determination and a grumbling belly, Jumma managed to climb out and fend for himself. It was tough and dangerous, impossible to find decent allies to take in a young, partially blinded cub. After learning the ways of scavenging by watching badland Hyenas he was able to grow into a strong, patient Lone King.

Now being able to properly hunt, Jumma found it difficult to grow fond of his own kind again. Males often threatened him, lionesses never cared to look his way. Opal, a quiet and thin lioness, was discovered resting along the riverside, weakly lapping up beads of water while laying on her side. She was frail and starving from the drought. Jumma took it upon himself to hunt for her until she was able to regain her strength, bonding with her over the few weeks, then later taking her as his queen.

This was the beginning of Jumma’s pride. Unfortunately, the two cubs born to the pair were unable to survive. Their genes were weak, their guardians new to parenthood. It was devastating for them. During another litter, a pair of crazed lionesses flew out from the burning forests surrounding the nest. The three cubs did not survive. Surrounding prides spread the tale of Jumma, the half blinded Lion who was cursed by that snake bite as a cub, stating it was the reason he was unable to protect offspring. Furious, Jumma felt a brutal need to prove himself as a king. With a deeply embedded hatred for his own kind already he found it easy to fight, kill, and sacrifice.

Now building his territory and broadening his pride, Jumma grew very wary of adult lions. He often found himself taking in abandoned and sickly cubs, however, and the pride gladly accepted them as their own. Finally a soft spot, if you will, something to help Jumma heal from what he did not get to experience in his youth, and to give cubs a second chance his own did not receive.
