The founders of the Astaria pride traveled down to what is now known as northern Africa from the great city of Athens.
Athens is not their true origin, however. They were a race as old as time, their ancestors said to have formed as soon as our universe.
The Merciful Palaemon settled this area, with a few of his kind in tow. They tried to build a home here, but found the area a wild place, having yet to be inhabited by many humans.
Finding life to be difficult, Palaemon, and the others, decided a long slumber was needed. They built up chambers for each member of the pride and slept for thousands of years...
Finally, Palaemon and the others were woken from their slumber, but they did not find their living conditions to be much different. The land had been transformed, possibly for the worse, but human inhabitants were still sparse in the area.
Some of the pride wished to move on to another area, but when they did, they discovered the world had changed drastically while they slept. Humans no longer relied on the earth like they used to, Palaemon was hesitant to ask his people to join these newly advanced humans.
The oldest of the group, Wise Woman Olivia reminded the pride of their other options. They could join the stars once more, if they were scared of the changes in this world. Galeath would find them a new home. Many chose to leave, Palaemon understood.
Palaemon himself did not wish to join the humans, not yet at least. Olivia reminded him that the human way was not the only way. She showed him all the creatures of this land, telling him to pick a worthy kind and they would adapt.
The lions set themselves apart from the other animals in the area. They too had a leader, structure to their prides, and were mighty creatures.
And thus, the true Astaria Pride was born.
Hundreds of years passed, Palaemon saw much of the world change from his place of comfort at the head of his pride. Finally, Palaemon was growing weary of this world, or at least this position in it. Palaemon spoke to Wise Woman Olivia of his troubles. She said it was his time to venture out on his own, the pride had her, and he could appoint a new leader if he liked.
During the years, he had sired a child he thought fit the position well, Astral Anroi.
Palaemon and Anroi both took their true forms upon Anroi's crowning, during which, Palaemon pressed a thumb to Anroi's head. "My wisdom is yours now."
With that, Anroi resumed his lion form, and Palaemon left the pride, going off to live with the humans.
Anroi led the pride, Olivia guiding the young leader. With the wisdom his father gave, it was an easy task. He also had no old world memories to hold him back in these times.
After hundreds more years past, an unfortunate event occurred. Anroi was struck down. A vengeful spirit had found its way to the Astaria pride, it held a grudge towards Palaemon, and took its anger out on Anroi.
All was not lost though. Anroi had been a benevolent, kind leader, many of the pride, otherworldly or not, mourned him. Wise Woman Olivia had a solution. They needed the wisdom that Palaemon passed down, and with enough power, she could bring Anroi back.
Anroi, now going by Ailill, was brought back, and much more powerful than before.
The pride lives on, Palaemon's wisdom guiding their way.
