Pride History

The first king of Pride Arona was a weak and selfish king named Ngaire, who nearly brought the young pride to ruin. The Star Priestess Nokama, a young and ambitious lioness with a cruel heart, bore a cub named Tahiwai whom she trained in the art of war and manipulation and death.

And Tahiwai killed Ngaire and became Moon King, and the pride grew strong in the days of flood and fire and falling stars. He took as his mate the long-furred lioness Eketone, who bore him two warrior daughters but never a son.

The Moon King, however, was too kind and good-natured to make their ambitious mother proud, and at last she began to scheme against them in order to put their half-brother in power. Tahiwai was at last forced to kill Nokama, and named the skyward lion Mbinguni as heir.

When Tahiwai grew old and gracefully retired, Mbinguni took control of Pride Arona. This ascension was challenged by Ahuru, a border guard who, like Mbinguni, had the blood of the Celestial Pride in his veins. After a great battle, Ahuru was cast out into the wild lands, and Mbinguni came to power at the end of the summer. During the final fight, Mbinguni's eyes changed from silver to the bright green and orange of the rogue god Apollyon.

The pride was led well by clever Mbinguni, but when he realized he was becoming too old to hold his own against his younger challengers the skyward warrior stepped down. His place was taken by his youngest son, a Primal male named Kiira.

Kiira is a gruff wanderer, who seems largely uninterested in leading the pride day to day and spends his time wandering the savanna in search of other leaders to battle. Talk has already spread through the pride of replacing him, although no one knows where a cub strong enough to do so might be found...
