The Nomadic Pride of Thurin Maethor

You stumble across a nomadic pride of lions while on your rounds resting on the borders of your territory. They all appear to be female with the exception of two young males that merely watch you, but make no move to approach you. Their heads turn once a female looking suddenly stands up and makes it's way towards you. The jewels and the body wear making the lion stand out amongst the other lions within the pride.

There was an air about this lion that gave off leadership and wisdom. It stops a couple feet away from you and smiles sincerely.
"Welcome dear one. I hope we have not disturbed you for we will not be staying long." The voice was oddly male which was confusing since it distinctly looks like a lioness.
"Forgive me, I am King Callon." He finally introduces himself with a knowing smile. "You seemed to be confused my friend. Yes, I am male, but it is in our customs you see. For once a male becomes a king he will go through certain trials. Only when he deems himself worthy to take his place as king with his mane fall away and be adorned with what you seen before you." He gave an amused chuckle at your still growing confused expression.
