I'm posting this thread to showcase the fantastic new colors I'm proposing in my Lioden Sliding Scale Thread: Check it out!!! Pewter, Sterling, Titanium, Platinum, and Steele were beautifully created by Griff (#26694) but the rest of these examples were made by me, and although mine can't compare to Griff's, they're meant to illustrate the finer points of the Sliding Scale modification of my genetics model! Without getting into the specifics of the Sliding Scale thread that inspired these, the basic concept of the color model is that the colors are arranged into NCL colors, Custom/Oasis colors, and Special/Raffle colors just as they are now, but there are two versions of each: a Solid version in which the color remains mostly the same throughout the body or the Countershaded version in which the topline is darker and lightens in a countershading pattern where the belly, throat, and the feet are lighter in shade. From there, each genotype (genetic formula) will produce three shades of each color, namely a dark, medium, and light shade. I'm calling this part of the model the "Sliding Scale" Because there will be MANY of these to share, I'm starting to break them down into sections that correspond with the color groups they belong to in my Sliding Scale model. If you like what's listed here, come see MORE: Black Colors of my Sliding Scale Model Orange Colors of my Sliding Scale Model Dilute Orange Colors of my Sliding Scale Model Black Specials Colors of my Sliding Scale Model Orange Specials Colors of my Sliding Scale Model Golden Colors of my Sliding Scale Model Cream Colors of my Sliding Scale Model Fawn Colors of my Sliding Scale Model With that said, here's what we'd like to show you in greater detail than the lil' thumbnails on the original thread (colors with * or > are those we're trying to have added to Lioden) Dusty and Bone are Xylax's colors for a later release, and I'm not at liberty to discuss them.: The Grey Sliding Scale: * Dun: the medium shade of Grey. The Maltese Sliding Scale: * Korat (formerly known as Russian Blue): the dark shade of Maltese. * Chartreaux (formerly known as American Blue): the light shade of Maltese. The Silver Sliding Scale: * Pewter: the dark shade of Silver. * Silver: Griff's color was accepted!!! * Sterling: the light shade of Silver. The Platinum Sliding Scale: * Titanium: the dark shade of Platinum * Platinum: the Solid form of Silver. * Steele: the light shade of Platinum. This one is particularly meaningful to me because the color and spelling commemorate a young Weimaraner I lost on 4/15/02 at 7 months due to a congenital heart condition. The Ivory Sliding Scale: * Antler: the medium shade of its range. * Ivory: the light shade of its range. The Willow Sliding Scale: * Aspen: the dark shade of its range. * Willow: the medium shade of its range. * Birch: the light shade of its range. I'm pretty partial to the Russian Blue, too: it's darker with less countershade. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Love the idea, though personally I don't know if I'd go with calling them Russian Blue or American Blue... It just doesn't quite fit into Lioden for me. Maltese is, I assume, based off the idea of a "Maltese" tiger, which is supposed to be bluish. I love the colors themselves though. I'll have to see if I can think of an actual helpful suggestion though other than "not quite right to me". Sorry. >< I do love them though. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Hmm, maybe those names could be changed to Chartreux and Nebelung, two cat breeds that also have distinct shades of blue coats. The former similar to the russian blue, the latter a paler shade. 0 players like this post! Like? Edited on 17/08/14 by Griff (#26694) |

That's kind of neat. I do like those. I'm trying to think of something good as well. The best I could think of were "denim" and "sky" but that doesn't quite fit right either. -chuckles- 0 players like this post! Like? |

That scale's names were, in fact, kinda bugging me! The theme I was going for was countries (Russia, Malta, and America; Russian Blue a cat breed and American blue a rat color), but I like Griff's names BETTER! At least all three of those names have cats in common. BTW, *SHAZAM! Griff knocked out four new colors today! Steele is actually a very meaningful one for me, so I'm very happy to see it... I loved that little boy so damn much. 0 players like this post! Like? |

from all of your colour models, they're more of suggestions for genetics, the art is a side effect, but to be honest 90% of them is just blue, honestly, I am a bit unhappy with so many dark and unnatural bases. For now I am planning to release mostly natural looking bases, I am really tired of how pink lioden has become and this isn't making me feel positive towards those suggestions as for the genetics model, this is not my area of interest/knowledge - I don't really care how genetics work so I leave that judgement to the coders. 0 players like this post! There are multiple thread because there are so many color suggestions. That is why there is 90% blue and a bit of dull brown here. This is only the thread for the dilutes and I think these specific Dilute colors are only the blues/browns, because the red dilutes are included in the Orange model which we haven't worked on much yet. The Brown/Black range has a few more naturals though. 0 players like this post! Like? Edited on 22/08/14 by Griff (#26694) |

Griff explained this perfectly. The dilute range only contains 18 of the 96 colors that would be possible for the Custom and Special colors with the update I did to my original genetics model. As Griff said, more natural colors are found in the Black/Brown range (current colors include Black, Onyx, Vandal, Dark Brown, Copper and Brown) and the Orange range (current colors include Mahogany and Beige). I added the multiple color threads because I've found, for the most part, that people tend to be intimidated by long, text-heavy posts. The original color thread that previewed the colors we suggested for the original genetics model was moved into the Game Art forum when it was introduced: I originally posted it in the Game Development forum. The art Griff and I have added are suggestions, and this is the first developer feedback we've gotten, so we've been flying blind so far. For what it's worth, it wouldn't bother me one bit if the bases we've suggested were modified in any way as long as it meant the genetics model were implemented. The whole reason I posted the original genetics thread in the first place was because I heard so many complaints about drop rates and completely unrealistic breeding outcomes and I knew I could come up with a solution that not only made sense but would be based on color mutations that occur in real-life feline species. The range of colors and better predictability would have something for everyone, and everyone could know as much or as little about genetics as they wanted and still have better outcomes. There are an infinite number of colors that can be added to this model, and there are several variations of the model itself that can be used. I figured it was a win-win, so I spent hours and hours tweaking it, making charts and writing blocks of text explaining it, and working out the bugs/seeing how much interest existed in discussion threads to see if it might help. 0 players like this post! I'm always a sucker for "blue" colors, too, Noisia - blue's my favorite color! 0 players like this post! Like? |
