I thought that it would be a good idea to incorporate notifications in the threads. Much like the 'News Post' notifications, and other notifications that don't go into your inbox, why not have a red bar on the page that informs you of someone posting in a thread you started? I know that most people want to do other things while they wait for responses from people in Chatter on their forums and would rather not spend all their time refreshing the page in case someone responds. Something akin to '(User name here) posted in (thread name here)' will pop up as that red notification bar on the top of the screen. The link to your thread is right there and you can go to it right then or choose to ignore it. The red bar will disappear when you exit the page, or it can have a little X so the bar can be exited out of when you choose. Same thing could happen if someone mentioned your name (uses the @username) in another thread. It would pop up as '(User name) mentioned you in (thread name)' again links are there and this can also be ignored. Now I know some of you won't want the notifications, which is why I am also suggesting there be an option to turn off the thread notifications located in the thread itself, making it so you don't get notifications for that certain thread. If you do not want the notifications at all there can be a button on your profile as well, turning off notifications all together. Other Suggestions for Notifications: Notification restrictions: New notifications for the same thread will be restricted to the last five people who posted after your last post. To reduce red bar clutter the usernames could be condensed to the same bar for the same thread. Something to the effect of '(Username, Username, Username, Username and Username) posted in (Thread name)' could show up instead of one red notification bar for every one person who posted. Suggested by Face (30406). Priority Threads: Much like the ability to stop the notifications of certain threads, there should also be a button to prioritize notifications from a thread. This could possibly tie into the bookmarking system, if not then maybe have it as a separate list that can be edited. Suggested by Suka (4616) Quick Links: Once you get a notification from your thread, you are linked directly to your thread. Why not take that a step further and have that link go straight to the page where the reply is? No more shuffling through tens of hundreds of pages to find the reply you are looking for. Example; Someone has mentioned you in a thread you posted in. Instead of having to shuffle through pages to find that post, you just click on the thread link and BAM you right there on the page. All you have to do now is just scroll down to easily find the comment. Subscribe: Upon posting a new thread or posting in someone else's thread users are automatically subscribed to that thread. The next time someone posts in that thread a notification will pop up. Unsubscribing will be the same as stated above, there will be an option directly in the forum for one to click on if they no longer want to receive notifications in that thread. As long as they don't go into the inbox, yeah! and they're restricted to 5-10 posts from when you make one. Otherwise you'll get those threads that have 20 people posting but you're super not wanting to shut off notifications for a specific thread, etc. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Support! What could make this even better is if you could only have notifications on say... two threads, and only ones that you choose. :> You could switch around ones that you want to get notifications on, so if you're doing an auction and someone bids, you'll know right away. But if someone posts on a really old thread of yours for whatever reason, it doesn't ping you. That way it isn't too heavy on the server, and only the most important of your threads are used. I know I've needed it on auctions or my sale's thread, so this would be pretty useful to me. uvu 0 players like this post! Like? |

Hey there. While your idea is indeed useful, sadly it was already suggested about a year ago here. Just a friendly advice: Before posting an idea, you can always use the search feature to see if it was already suggested or not. It would be nice if you supported that thread and kept bumping it. This one is a duplicate. Hope this helped. Axel 0 players like this post! Like? |

Thanks for letting me know about that, however not to start an argument, there are no rules against similar ideas. I did read that other post and yes it is the same idea but I'd like to see if anything else can be added to this one that hasn't already as I have added details to my suggestion. 0 players like this post! The problem is.. what if you had, a lot, and a LOT of threads? you would get these notificacions each minute, it would be annoying if you are in the wach-a-snake game and 3 minutes later you have 234982374293tomato34867243 millions of notifications.. it would annoy most people. but, support. 0 players like this post! He means about something as a "X" in a side of a thread, and when you click it you get it as "get notifications of this thread", i understood that.. 0 players like this post! Like? |
