There are two things I would like to say about the hyenas in the game. One they have cubs not pups and they don't have packs, it's cackles or clans. It's a common mistake but it just doesn't make the game look professional. Sorry to bother y'all about this but I would like to see this fixed. Once again, sorry. |

People call them pups actually because they have dog-like behavior. People wouldn't look at a hyena baby and call it a cub considering the first word that pops into their head is pup. Plus, people can call them cubs or pups. It's stating the same thing honestly. ![]() |

Everything that Blue has said is true, I won't argue with it, but I would like to point out that Wikipedia actually is, for the most part, legitimate, especially when you can see the little clickable link citations in text. There was a study done with wikipedia where people changed information to intentionally incorrect information, and for the most part, it got changed back to the correct information within hours. Anyway, I just thought it was funny that a bunch of the citation links I clicked led back to hyaenidae.org anyway. If you're going to use wikipedia, its best to use it as a starting point, and to check the citations at the bottom of the page for more info! ![]() |

Huh. I never knew Hyena babies were cubs. One thing that does bother me is the fact that the rabid hyena pack npc are all the same size. They aren't. In fact, the female leader is about twice the size of the other hyenas. ![]() |

It's not stating the same thing. It'd be like people going around saying "Oh look at that lion kitten" or "Aww what a cute dolphin cub!" It's incorrect terminology. ![]() |

Hyenas are close relatives to dogs but their behavior is VERY different. IE the female runs the cackle, males are the lowest rank in the cackle, they are very independent from the bigger stronger females. Dogs hunt in many Hyenas hunt mostly alone. Also their body shapes, sounds such as laughing, mooing, snorting, etc differentiates them from the canines. ![]() Edited on 11/10/14 by Blue (#42234) |

I'm still confused by what you mean, WhiteFang. You can call a cat a dog and that doesn't make it one. I don't look at a young hyena and go "PUPPY!". I go "cub" because I know that's correct. The same as I don't look at a young lion and go "Kitty!". I go cub as well. Nothing in the link you posted as "explaining" says anything like that unless I'm missing it? Hyena do not have "dog like behavior" any more than lions do. They have their own unique behavior, which has traits that some people consider feline or canine perhaps, but they do not "act like dogs" or "act like cats". They act like hyena. We're not attempting to pass incorrect information by going "people sometimes do this". Blue is making a suggestion so that the correct terms are used so people who don't know the difference can learn. ![]() |

Aside from all the debating, I'm supporting because I don't see why they wouldn't want to fix it. c: Also that wiki doesn't have pups written anywhere in it when you "command find" it. ![]() |

I wouldn't even say hyenas are closely related to dogs. From what I understand there pretty distant from each other. ![]() |

@Drongo Totally agree with and respect what you said... (but I call all feline babies kitties. And all canine babies puppies. But not kittens and pups because those are official terms, where as kitty and puppy are also terms of endearment.) ![]() |

@Whispermouse There's a bit of difference in that, Whisper. And that's fine. But I mean, if I call someone dating "my baby", I'm not really calling them a "baby". We're talking using correct terms in the correct places, not in fond endearments. :) It's kind of different to go "I love my kitty" and to write, say, a report for college on "the behavior of kitties" as an example. ![]() |

@Drongo, Oh I get that, absolutely. I was more so a little teasing in response to "The same as I don't look at a young lion and go "Kitty!". I go cub as well." ![]() |
