These updates are all great. I do have a question about the cubs being separated at 5 months. Does that mean they now count against our slots and does that mean that if we have male cubs, will they end up being chased sooner or will they still only be chased at adulthood?

I know these answers might be obvious, but I just want to get some clarification.

You've always been able to chase cubs without the mom running off. If you chase the mother and she had cubs that ARE NOT weaned (5 months) then they will leave with her.

I agree that ranting about accidents we've made ourselves or just having bad luck with a litter or something isn't a problem. My impression from what Clay said on a previous page is that that is still allowed. It's just 'targeting' complaints that aren't, like staff, or other members or art since that targets Xy. Or have I misinterpreted that?

I get the need to let off some steam out of frustration. I just don't understand the point in doing it without any other purpose than to criticise other people or the site.

You might be right Mwako, and people might move their complaints to the Game Developments forum instead. I don't think that would be such a bad thing. Offering your own experiences about a problem can be helpful as Lady BlightWyvern pointed out.

Sorry, I haven't explained myself well in my earlier post. Looking at it again, I can see how it would come across that I think people can literally only offer a negative opinion if they also offer a solution, but that isn't the case. I think negative opinions are just as important as positive ones for the development of the site. I just think there is a constructive way to give them and disagree that the SYC forum is the right fit for that.

Yeah, I agree you can let off steam "I don't like chat because ____/the battle sys because____" and take it as "oh, ok" but it becomes a problem when it escalates to "This sys is awful, I can never win, this was in poor taste to implement" or "Uuuugh I hate chat, it's bad, people there are ___" because then it's targeting. Basically because the "right" one offers a reason for why they don't like something, the "bad" one gives a reason but also makes it to seem like it's someone else's fault.

I guess what I'm saying is that rants about LD should be allowed, within reason.

@Blight what do you mean "within reason" though? Because there will be some people will be borderline stepping on the unacceptable without clear reasoning of what is ok and what isn't. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you but there needs to be a clear cut "border" for this, otherwise any rants about LD will be shut down.

Criticism is as important as praise. Closing off from criticism, even if it is in the form of a rather negative rant, isn't going to help the place grow. It's like sticking your fingers in your ears and going 'LALALALALA!' when someone is saying something you don't want to hear, while getting a big-head from the praise. The negative is what helps keep you grounded, and getting too big for your britches.

It just doesn't sit well that all we are allowed to talk about are the good things. It feels.....like putting up a false front that everything is okay. =/

I completely agree with Meo.

Basically what I mean by "within reason" is;
It's ok to:
-Rant about any mistakes you did (Sold __ to the monkey)
-Rant about any ugly cubs/etc produced by your lionesses (Celestial x Lilac made a ....Golden with no marks...?!)
-Sub-male fails/hunting fails (Ugh...he brought back nothing for the TWELFTH TIME AND NO STATS! Why do my Lionesses only bring back human legs q_q)
General LD annoyances (WHY do I get rejected as a DREAMBOAT, Ugh I hate NCL's, ....why can't I sell my ____, GB is so muuuuch anymore T^T)
-Vent frustrations out about things on LD that DON'T just exist to cut down the mods/coders/artists or other users way of doing -things. If one must rant about something like this, don't just ask/want users to agree with you. While it's great to have more -people on your side against/for something
"I don't like the new battle system it's too difficult....ranting, ranting..............but I think to make it better by......idea.
-Dislike Realistic/Fantasy things about LD. (I HATE that my lionesses die/I HATE maroon bases. This game should be easier/harder...can..our lionesses get hurt in hunting?/have...NEON GREEN STRIPES?! *gasp* I just went there)

~~Probably my best point here; if there is a problem that doesn't just affect you but a few to many users then it very much should be allowed to be spoken of. Before the "Chat" topics were closed there were various users in them that felt a certain way. Game development ideas were made about it...but ultimately got little to no acknowledgement. But what DID happen? It showed how many people actually felt a certain way and made a few other users realize what was going on. Rants are supposed to bring out a reaction in people, for better or worse. It showed that something wasn't right and made attempts to talk about it to get others to see it too. Not all rants have a solution, some are merely made to get acknowledgement.

It's not ok to:
-Rant like this:
"I HATE the new battle system, I'm going to quit because of it (because it didn't go their way)" (first off....not everything is going to go your way, but if you're going to quit just because you can't stand ___ in the game...that's kinda sad. If it was something like ALL YOUR ____ NOW MUST COST GB or ALL YOUR LIONESSES CAN DIE IN HUNTING or something that revolves around either GB (real money) or losing something like food/toys/decor then people do have a right to get angry, they worked hard for that stuff.
-Rant about users in trade center clogging up the "good" stuff. (Just because you don't like seeing all the NCL's,Decor, food doesn't mean that others like seeing your GMO cows/buffalo scrotums either. The trades are for everyone, learn to tolerate people's super fantastic ____ in trades, if you don't want it/like it, you don't have to spend SB/GB on it). This targets a large array of users indirectly.


So what if someone does one of the "not ok things"? Depending on the severity of it; A warning, suspended for a few days from rants specifically, suspended from rants for a week...noteworthy offenses though should be something that actually cause a major problem; incite/encourage other users to jump the bandwagon and hate/complain about something (start a "clan" against ____), cause more tension between users, basically anything that makes people more so on edge. Those involved in this should be noted, and depending on their involvement in it, action taken to them.

I agree Lady Wyvern. People should of course still be able to express negative views. I just think there's an appropriate way to do it and the SYC forum has a bit of a habit of getting out of hand sometimes. That's why I think a more 'structured' place like the Game Development forum is a better fit for giving negative views. People already go there quite a lot to offer constructive criticism.

I get where you're coming from, Mwako. I'm still a bit unsure of exactly what some of the rules are. I've often had to read through a few news posts to double check whether I'm allowed to do something and I'm still unsure about some. It'd be easier if all the rules were written up clearly all in one place so people could check things like that.

If we can get a clear "Do's and Dont's" list for the SYC board as far as Lioden-related rants, it would be a huge help. We still deserve, and sometimes need, to rant about things that don't involved other players.
