Imgur has changed, you will want to use Photoshop now! The proper link is laid out for you when you upload and view your image, the link will be the one on the right hand side of the image when you click it after uploading that says HTML. Its starts with the bracket "<" and Letter "a"

I get a lot of folks asking how to get images on their auctions and sales!

Here is a simple step by step that I use.

My operating system is Windows 7.

Make sure you have "Paint" on your computer. Its a simple editing program.

This is what paint looks like when you have it open. As you can see, I cropped and highlighted what the icon looks like at the bottom of the image.

It is possible to have more than one paint program open at a time. This can come in handy when doing intricate editing.

For now we will touch on the basics to get your image to show on the forums.

Now that you have located PAINT and have opened it, lets take a look at the tools that are needed. We will only use a few simple ones.

At the top left hand corner of PAINT you will see a few tools.

SELECT will allow you to choose an area of your picture that you wish to change/edit.

CROP is an important one. Using SELECT you can highlight an area on an image and cut it away with the CROP button, removing the unwanted parts of a picture.

RESIZE. It will help later on when we want to upload our image.

PASTE. Keep in mind, not everyone has the same method for taking screen shots. I use my "PRT SCR" key. This is the key located on the right hand side of my keyboard, near the F12 button. It could be located elsewhere on other keyboards.

If you do not have a button like this, right click the image, select SAVE IMAGE and save it to a folder on your computer. You can easily open it in paint for editing.

Lets try cropping!

Now that you have selected an image and have pasted it to paint, or opened an image from a folder, make sure that you have the SELECT button highlighted in orange. Notice in the images below how the buttons in the top left are highlight in ORANGE.

Choose the area you wish to edit and drag your mouse over the image while holding down your left mouse button. You will see an outline around the image, very small and faint, made up of dotted lines.

Ok! You now have an area selected, what do you do now?

Go back to the tool bar at the top of left of PAINT and select CROP. When you do this, the entirety of the image will disappear, except for the area you highlighted with SELECT.

You can also right click the selected area and select CROP from the menu that pops up next to your mouse.

If the image does not crop properly, hold down CTRL + Z. This will undo the last action and revert the image back to what it was before the previous change.

Great job!

Now we need to resize the image so it does not take up the ENTIRE forum page!

First, make sure your new image is selected. By holding down CTRL + A, you will select the entire image. The small dotted lines will appear around the image if it is selected properly.

On your upper left hand tool bar, you will see the RESIZE button we talked about earlier. By clicking this, a new window will appear on your screen. You will see two windows with 100 in each one. By changing one, the other will change too. If you make the value 70, the second window will also change to 70. When you select OK, your image will become smaller.

Now you need to save your image.

You can choose to save it as the original, or save it as a new file so you can use the original at a later date. At the top of your PAINT window, you will see a tiny itsy bitsy disk icon. This is your save button. If you choose to save all changes to the original image, click this.

Otherwise choose the dark blue tab just under the disk image and use the drop down menu and select "SAVE AS"

The default format is perfectly fine to use when saving. Make sure to give your new image a new name if you want the original to remain untouched.

Wonderful!

Now you have your image saved safetly on your computer!!

How do I get it onto LIODEN?

For the next part, the image hosting website is entirely up to the user. I use Imgur.com. It is easier for me, and has very easy tools. An account is not necessary, but helpful if you wish to reuse an image for a later date instead of needing to reupload each time you wish to use it.

The blue button at the top of your Imgur page will start you through the upload process.

A window will pop up with 4 options. You will want the one that says "BROWSE YOUR COMPUTER"

Select your image and click START UPLOAD

legeYr0l.png

Your image will appear with several options lined down the right side. You want the one that says HTML. Copy the link and paste it to your Forum Post. It will remain a link in your editing window, but as soon as you post, the image will appear.

You will also notice a series of small blue links. By selecting one of these, it can resize the image for the forum as well.

Congratulations! You now are able to post your link in a forum and by selecting "POST" the image will appear in your post!

Another quick way to save a cropped screenshot on Windows 7 is to use the "Snipping Tool." If you do a search in your Start menu, it will usually come up. However, Paint is helpful if you want to do anything fancier like resizing the image, piecing images together, etc.

I only mention it because I feel like the Snipping Tool is really useful, and most people don't even know they have it! :)
