![]() Iubatus Draconum "Maned Jackal" Gorgan Jackals were discovered in a large forest in Russia by accident by a man named Jessiah Gorgan. The man, thinking it was a simple mutation that created the large creature, followed the huge animals through the forest. What he found was dozens of the animals living similar to that of wild wolves. Curiosity overcame him and he captured a young female and raised it to study. What he found was that the animals acted more similar to that of horses than of wolves, that they were omnivores, and grew to the size of Clydesdale horses. Out of curiousity he fashioned a saddle and bridle for the animal out of an old horse saddle, and, after many broken bones, cuts, and bruises, taught the animal to ride. News of the animal spread like wildfire and everyone wanted one. So young Gorgans were captured and domesticated. By current times they were common on almost every continent. Appearance Gorgan Jackals are most commonly remembered for their many legs, having six altogether. Their many legs help them gain fast speeds, sometimes ranging from 60mph to 70mph. Large bat-like ears help them hear incredibly well, but small eyes mean that they don't see well and a Gorgan's ears reach their full size at around six weeks old and dont grow after that point unless a mutation is present. Large noses also help make up for their lack of sight. All Gorgan Jackals have a thick mane of fur around their neck that descends onto their chest and they are born with this thick fur, but it grows with their age. Meaning a old Gorgan Jackal could have a mane that reaches the middle of their legs or even the ground. Their claws also never stop growing, and in the wild they will file them down by scratching rocks and trees. However, domestic Gorgans need to have them clipped once a month to avoid painful overgrowth. Females: ![]() While being similar to males in many ways, the female Gorgan Jackal is slightly smaller, around the size of a Clydesdale horse. Males: ![]() Males are a bit larger than females with a more box like snout and thicker fur. Their heads tend to be a bit less curved than that of a female. Males also tend to have more eye catching markings to attract potiental mates. Pups: ![]() Pups are born at roughly the size of a horse foal. They are born with large ears that stop growing at 6 weeks and a thick mane. They have dulled colors that will brighten up as they age for camoflauge. Pelts Gorgan jackal pelts are generally naturally colored but can have markings ranging from spots, patches, stripes, and even to a mix of different markings. Sometimes they can even have unnatural looking markings. Their colors tend to be browns, blacks, whites, tans, and greys but colors like reds and almost blues have been recorded. Humans also tend to color their fur, usually their manes. Meaning that some Gorgans might have some bright streaks in their thick manes as an act of humans. Lifespans Gorgan Jackals can live up to 25 to 30 years if they have been domesticated, but the wild that span is much less; being only 10 to 15 years due to compitition, eeather conditions, and sickness that isnt able to be treated. Habitat Their habitat consists of the dense forest in the northern regions where they cant be hunted will thrive easily under the right conditions, but still have to worry about other animals when it comes to finding food. However, because they were domesticated these creatures can now be found just about anywhere in the world. Known Threats Its not quite known what all predators are a threat to these creatures but wolves are known to hunt and kill newborn pups if they aren't protected. and will sometimes kill off the weak and injured if they can get close enough to them. Mountain lions are also a decent threat to them as well. Disease in the wild is also something that could easily take the life of one of these animals. While they do have a hardy immune system, many diseases can still be contracted and will kill them. Diet and Hunting Patterns Gorgan's are omnivores which means they eat plants and animals, though they prefer meat and will only eat plants if they cant find anything to hunt. They hunt in packs of 3 to 5 individuals usually the young adults will be the ones to do this as they have more energy. When food gets scarce in the winter they are also in charge of gathering fruits and berries and other edible plants for the packs to survive. General Temperament & Lifestyle They are generaly calm crreatures and are not known to be agressive but will become defensive if injured or protecting their young. Their life style consists of living in a pack of at least 20 individuals in the wild about the size of an average wolf pack. They have a strong family bond within their packs and rarely fight within their own packs. Under human care they grow deep bonds with their riders and will fight for them as if they were their offspring. They have been known to take on threats to their humans that they would normally engage such as bears and mountain lions. Communication & Body Language They comunicate roughly through barks and growls sometimes howling to alert each other when danger is near. their body language can sometimes signal if they are sick, injured, stressed, or angry. Snarling and teeth showing and ears pinned back are a good sign of this. Their body language closely resembles that of their wolf cousins and more often than not the motion is very slight. Reproduction The females come into heat once every two years and can have 1 to 2 pups depending on the circumstances. 2 pups are extremely rare and sometimes have a mutated cub in the litter though this is also is more rare than the 2 pup litter Religion and Traditions They have no known Religion but they have a few traditions in the pack, before the pups are deemed fit to hunt and gather food they are put through a serious of tasks that range from finding certain berries to hunting certain animals. The reason for this is to know if they are capable of bringing back food that is safe for consumption to the pack. Before males can mate they will often spar for the right with others in their family group. Riding Gear ![]() ![]() Edited on 16/12/15 @ 09:09:16 by Reigo (17/25gb) (#26683) |
