So, I've been looking into this, and some animals can be affected by what is known as gigantism. At times, this creates entire species but for others it is a one-time thing. Humans are even known to be affected by it, as well as horses, cats, and dogs. There's a breed of giant rabbits that resulted from gigantism and adaptive abilities.

SO! Gigantism lion. It's proportions would be larger than the average lion as per it's name suggests. It'd likely have a tired appearance but I think having the chance at a gigantism lion would be awesome!

Liger gigantism is not uncommon, it causes the animal joint pain and issues walking as it gets older. LION gigantism would be similar in that the lion tends to rest more often than a regular lion do to it's stretched joints.

It would maybe affect gameplay. Say, half the number of hunts of the average lion due to getting tired more quickly.

What do you guys think? Giant mutation?

I like the idea of only being able to due half the number of hunts! How would it affect a lion if they were king? Doesn't gain energy as quickly perhaps but has an advantage in battles due to its large size?

Yeah that sounds pretty good ^^ although I'm not sure how well that'd go over. Maybe the lion can only attempt to breed a certain number of times a day? like, at 30-40 breeds your lion is too tired to continue attempting to breed?

I don't know. I don't think it's that harsh. Male leopons can't breed at all.

Nifty idea! But those prices are so STEEP. Half the hunts would be a dramatically huge number over the years. Plus, it'd be annoying with a hunting party.

And a capped number of breeding attempts would be annoying. like, really annoying. Studs would have to pick and chose

That said, I'd support something more like... lessened stat gain. like 80% of what a normal lion gets.

Or, something like a lower lifespan.. by 2-4 years.

Hrm. But you don't typically see animals with gigantism being that terribly active. I dunno. I still think the hunt number should be reduces, but maybe to 7 instead of 5? It is a debilitating mutation on larger animals as far as activity is concerned, but I do see the balance needs to be struck here.

Yeah, but you also have to look at it from the fun game play perspective.

A mutation is fun because it's unexpected and very very very rare. Most of the time it's one of two things: Lethal, at which point, most people are going to grab a Jellyfish... or aesthetic only.

There are some mutes that affect gameplay: A blind or eyeless lion cannot patrol, hunt or become king. A dwarf lion has lower agility. A Leopon has MUCH lower stats and the males are infertile. The last is probably because a male flinging his genes around would have mottled Rosettes EVERYWHERE in no time. Overgrown fangs or claws don't affect gameplay.

And over all, those are pretty light issues. lower stats can be fixed with work. The other penalties are generally "cannot do the thing" versus "reduced capability to do the thing"

That said, being "gigantic" doesn't mean you have no energy. It's important to remember that Lions are wild animals and are going to be in great shape. And there were numerous humans with gigantisism who were athletes of various forms. (Andre the Giant!) ... plus, a lion's gonna do what they have to to live. Even if they hunt while creaky and sore.

...People of those sizes tend to have back and joint issues, and sometimes heart issues.

I think my vote would be for for reduced speed and agility.

I still like the idea of lessened lifespan (representing the potential for heart failure or something), however that would be very confusing because you're changing an expected norm. Kings live X length. Non kings live Y length. I suppose you could code in some automatic messages to remind the lion owner that, yes, their king will die a few years sooner, and to be prepared with their heir by then, though.

Hrmm I see your point. I wouldn't mess with the lifespan but maybe lower starting stats wouldn't be bad. Gigantism doesn't mess with fertility terribly much, but the genes of the offspring might be wonky. What do you think about having a higher chance of fatal mutations? Hrm. Even then I'm not 100% sure, but the stat reduction sounds good

I support, would love a big lion I also think it'd be really cool if it effected game play. I understand the whole keeping it fun, but I really like the idea that some birth defects do effect things (like leopons can't breed and some mute's can't be king ex)

I think the limited aspects of gameplay (half hunts, limited breeding, limited patrols maybe?) would be awesome.
