My suggestion is.
How about adding a training system to cubs and a chart will show their performances like in what "Job" they fit!

The Earned Ranks are:

Hunters = mostly trained females
Guards = mostly males (Add job to subordinate males, like: when nomad lions reach your territory. An icon will appear like in messages or forum subscribers.)
Shamans = mostly elders but can be trained as a cub
