Shadowpaw woke up with a huge yawn. He got to his paws and stretched. He was excited about today. What was his mentor going to teach him today?

Shadestar yawned and then stretched inside his cozy den. He padded out of his den, stumbling at first. As he blinked his drowsiness away he noticed that overnight a thin white blanket of snow had covered the forest floor. Shadestar shook out his snow-dappled pelt and continued to the fresh-kill pile where he selected a small thrush.

Darkfrost grumbles, pushing himself off of the ground. He grumpily goes out of the den, annoyed to see snow falling from the sky. He reluctantly nods at Snowpaw, going over to dig in to the fresh kill pile. My, is it going to be a boring day today, he thinks.

Stormleap padded out of the den to see Darkfrost stomping over to the fresh-kill pile. I wonder what his problem is, she wondered as she stretched out her pelt and started to groom her long cream-colored fur.

~Darkfrost~

After finishing his sad-looking vole, Darkfrost stretches his paws and pads over to the front of the camp. The green forest shimmered, dew falling from the occasional leaf. He plants his hind on the ground, looking back and forth to find no movement. He growls, angry at the fact that he cannot go out into the forest often.
Darkfrost turns around to see if anyone is watching, then shuffles behind a tree. After a few seconds, he runs to his favorite spot on the whole territory, his solitary place of comfort. Darkness.

Shadestar looked around to see his clan waking up and realized patrols needed to be sent out. "Have you seen Darkfrost?" He asked Stormleap, seeing that she was closest to him. "Last I saw he was stomping to the fresh-kill pile," She shrugged then continued to sun herself. His jet black tail twitched with worry as he realized he hadn't seen Darkfrost all morning. If he doesn't come back by sun-high I'll send out a search party, He decided as he called out the sun-high and moon-high patrols.

*One hour later*
Darkfrost laps at the little pond by his spot, enjoying the sound of the birds. He knew it was about time to be getting back. Taking a deep breath of annoyance, he reluctantly walks back to camp. As he reaches the entrance, he sees Shadestar up on his oh-so-magical throne, giving orders. Pfft.

While he was calling out the patrols he saw Darkfrost pad back into camp. He leapt off Highrock as soon as he was done, and went over to Darkfrost. "Darkfrost, why didn't you stay for maybe two hours inside the camp and tell the clan tomorrow's patrols, that's one of the jobs of deputy isn't it? Or maybe you have something better to do instead of being clan deputy?" Shadestar asked narrowing his eyes.

Noticing that they cannot see eye to eye, Darkfrost grunts, "I know you didn't pick me because you wanted to. You did it because of your pride, don't want to let the clan see the ugly side of ya. I caught a scent as I scanned the borders this morning, I went to go check it out. Smelled like fox."
He narrowed his eyes as well, looking for the emotions buried in Shadestars' soul.

Deciding to let Shadestar get his way, Darkfrost grunts, walking over to the apprentices den.
Seeing Tigerpaw inside, he says, "Hey, time to get up. You're going to help Firecloud in the medicine cat den today."

Shadestar sighed irritably. "Darkfrost, I didn't pick you because of pride. I picked you because I saw a great cat, a natural born leader," He said, "Only if he'd get rid of his attitude. I want you to organize tomorrow's patrols and your apprentice can help Firecloud in the medicine den." He turned around before Darkfrost was able to protest. Darkfrost has to learn respect before he can be good deputy, Shadestar thought to himself.

Tigerpaw would blink her eyes, waking up slowly. As soon as she heard the word 'hunting' she leaped out of her nest, fully awake. "Lets go!" She meowed before racing out of the den, skidding to a stop before she would run into something.

Darkfrost doesn't want to say it, but, "It turns out you'll be helping Firecloud in the medicine cat den today. I have to work things out with Shadestar. I promise we can hunt either later today or tomorrow."
He sees the disappointment in the young apprentice's face, and couldn't help but feel a little sympathy.
