Unfortunately for the canine, his sleeps had always been interrupted by nightmares, horrible ones from his past. That was why he was sleeping so long, because he had finally gotten a peaceful sleep, one without the night terrors. As his side was poked and his mate's voice was heard, he let out a groan and shifted slightly, not waking up fully. In surprise, the large jackal jumped up as someone screamed in his ear. Now on his feet, fur standing up, he shook his head, opening his eyes. He looked down and, when his eyes stopped on his mate, he smirked slightly, letting out a breathy chuckle. "Of course..." he said, smiling down at her. There were perks of being a large, 'beast-like' jackal- such as strength, speed, ability, appearance (many jackals were afraid to face him) and all that- but there were also some bad results. For example, he towered over a lot of the jackals in his pack, including his mate, and that wasn't the best thing all the time. Therefore, whenever he was around her, he made himself as small as he could without messing with his ability to walk.

Mars nodded, "Yes, I know. I didn't have any of those nightmares, so I slept in a bit. My bad." he said with another one of his charming smiles. After stretching a bit and yawning, he made his way out the den and into the camp clearing, ears perked a bit. He looked back at Makeera and nodded, "How about one of us take a patrol to patrol the border and another one lead a hunting party?" he asked, turning to face her, open with taking either one. As he waited for the reply, he looked around, watching as many of the other jackals began coming out of their own dens and socializing, or whatever else they might be doing.

Mars nodded his head and made his way to the entrance of the camp. Once he was about a foot from the exit, he turned around and looked for a particular jackal. Soon enough his orange eyes were able to spot the canine, Audex, and he barked to him, his way of getting his attention. After he would make sure the jackal heard, he spoke; "Audex! You watch the camp while me and Makeera go out on our patrols!". He waited a moment longer, to make sure the beta heard him, before turning around and heading back towards the exit. Just as he was about to leave, he heard a whoosh and stopped, blinking his eyes- though not moving, flinching, or changing his expression- as the smaller canine appearance in front of him. The wolf hybrid chuckled, smirking in amusement.

With a nod, he walked out of the camp, his mate by his side. Mars' kept his position as average as average was for him; body up straight, wings folded at his side yet ready to open, ears perked, tail erect, and eyes narrowed as the orange orbs scanned the forest in front of him. He looked at Makeera, a small smile on his maw, "Let's start with the west corner of the border, shall we?" he said, looking back in front of them as he turned down the way towards the west side.
