I just met someone who got scammed through the new Goodie Bag feature. Someone was offering multiple bags, promising one of them had a certain item, but it turned out that the item did not exist in any of the bags (all of the bags were together in one trade, by the way). I've seen this happening to other people as well. I understand this is a thing of chance, but it's still incredibly rude to promise something and not hold up that promise.

We (Imperial Disease and I) that a new rule regarding the Goodie Bags would be helpful to reduce scamming. You should NOT be able to advertise an item that you did not put in a bag.

If you have any added suggestions or concerns, feel free to post! c:

I understand that you can't tell which bag has the special item, but if you name them with numbers and remember what number bag has the item, then doesn't it make more sense, I suppose? That's what I did when I gave away a big item, and once it was gone I deleted the rest of the bags.

Maybe a better option is to NOT be allowed to sell more than one bag and say one has a special item (not allowing other people to know which bag, of course), as I know people might get upset if their big item bag is sold right away and they were hoping to make money off of it or something. That might also be a better way to find the people breaking the rules, and it would slow down the scamming. (Did I explain that well enough? If not, I'll try again :'D)

I've only read a few comments so far - I'll read the rest and respond as soon as I can xD

Although I agree with this suggestion, I think the better (but possibly more complicated) solution is to change the way goodie bags are created. There should be a trade-inspired interface option that allows people to create a "stash" of 2 or more goodie bags to sell individually once they've been created.

They can decide what object goes into each goodie bag, but the color of the goodie bags in the stash will correspond based on the combined value of all the items put into it (valued at Monkey Business/Oasis prices and Catalogy rarity). So if a stash of goodie bags is made with a combined value of >1gb, they might be tan; if it's made with a combined value of 2 - 5gb, they might be yellow; if it's made with a combined value of 6 - 10 gb, they might be orange; if it's made with a combined value of 10gb+, they might be red; if it's made with a combined value of 25gb+, they might be black.

It could also be helpful to identify the rare "attention grabber" item that is hidden in a stash of goodie bags. Maybe there can be a game generated sentence for every bag made in a stash that says, you can smell ITEM NAME but can't tell if this is the right bag... or something like that.

Brash - Wouldn't work, prices of items fluctuate too much.

I don't support it, I'm sorry.

Saying you should remove all the bags after its gone is like having to pre-generate a winner for a raffle then closing it as soon as you get the number.
The appeal is in making profit, or at least making your money back.
You shouldn't be screwed out of it.

When admins implement the ability to see what goes into a goodie bag, you can report anybody you feel is not being truthful to moderators, and it will be dealt with.
And if you don't like the gamble, don't buy from that type of goodie bag sale.

CORRECTION & GOOD NEWS
User logs now display what goes into goodie bags.
If you suspect a user playing foul, open a ticket, and they'll be able to check if they put the item into the goodie bags.

@Torquil - That's fine, I definitely understand that. Maybe that part of the suggestion isn't so good.

I'm just hoping to figure out a way to reduce the scamming. I need to think a bit more, I suppose. x'D There's got to be a way to make it work better. I just don't like seeing so many people tricked into buying bags that are promised to have something when they don't. That's the main part of the problem I'm trying to figure out. I don't think the "removing bags after the good one's been sold" is scamming. I just know people have been getting upset about it.

Just to clear something up, I didn't suggest that players could look into the bags, that would be against the point of goodie bags in the first place. I suggested that a script would look at the bag and if it contains a special item (IE: lion balls, GB, markings, rare decor, etc.) It would say in bold print that one of the bags contain a rare item, but wouldn't say which bag contains what.

I get that, but once that one specific bag is bought, that script would disappear. Which would still make you as the person running it lose out.

@Dinocanid - I just read your suggestion and I really like it. Would you mind if I added it to my main post?

-

Also, I'll be removing the part that I'm seeing not many people like. ^^

@Reno
Yeah, I was just clarifying since it looked like some people misunderstood xD It would lower profits though since people won't buy the bags that someone's selling anymore since everyone would know that the "winning" bag is gone.
@Gallifreyaan
You can add it if you want, but Reno did bring up a good point of what it would do to sales.

I've seen this happening to other people as well. I understand this is a thing of chance, but it's still incredibly rude to promise something and not hold up that promise.

We decided (Imperial Disease came up with the idea) that a new rule regarding the Goodie Bags would be helpful to reduce scamming. You should NOT be able to advertise an item that you did not put in a bag. If you do advertise it and place the item in a random bag, you must remove all remaining bags once someone buys the bag with the item, as the bag with the item no longer exists (as long as you're online, of course).

--

The bolded parts are already against the rules, so if you want to tidy up the main post and make it clear you're suggesting that players have to remove the remaining bags.
If you encounter anything that is covered in the bolded scenarios, mod box.
There are already rules against it. ;o

@ Dinocanid - That's true; I just read that.
What if your idea was used (with the separate place for bags) and Brash's color-coding idea went with it? If it was with valuable items - such as scrotums, lion meat, custom decor, etc. - that generally doesn't get too much lower in price (from what I've noticed anyway), it might work.

Let me try and articulate my feelings on this. Im terrible at saying what im thinking....

I think having them in branches is bad, as once the item is sold...another person comes along and sees it say that one bag has the item, when there isnt.....then the second person is getting scammed, as the chance for the item no longer exists.

I THINK GOODIE BAGS SHOULD ONLY BE USED AS PERSONAL GIFTS, OR IN FORUM RAFFLES WHERE ALL BAGS ARE PICK A NUMBER TYPE DEALS. AND ONCE ALL ARE PAID FOR THEY GO OUT AT ONCE.
