Piebald is a pattern of pigment over otherwise unpigmented skin. As a result, pied animals will have normal coloration in some places but be white or entirely pigmentless elsewhere. In some animals, like horses, it's a bred trait, but it arises in the wild as a mutation in many animals including just about anything from deer to penguins to squirrels to snakes! I couldn't find any photos of pied lions, but there are records of other pied big cats, like panthers.

I figure it'd work sort of like achromia with a layer of unpigmented fur and skin overlayed on the body, but with splotches cut out so the original colors/markings/genetics could be seen underneath.

It'd probably be one of the more common mutations, but maybe it could have a few variations so the splotches felt more random? :0

Support. I absolutely love this! It is definitely a mutation I would want. I am obsessed with piebald horses, snakes and deer. I would love piebald Lions!

Isn't that pretty much what achroma and piebald are, markings with no pigment? XD

I just meant the picture example - it looks like a neat marking more than a mutation. Just how my brain first registered it.

Sounds cool. And with the game already having Achromia, it should be easy to make.

could there be different kinds of piebald patterns, sort of like the different feline markings? So someone could get piebald 1, piebald 2, etc which would cover different parts. Not sure if that's a good idea tho :s

I think piebald should be a marking/gene rather than a mutation, because in real life it isn't a mutation. That would also make it transferable by breeding on Lioden's server, cause mutations are not transferable.

Based on your image, this looks more like a horse type marking, possibly sabino? Piebald, at least in dogs doesn't have the freckling around the edges. It's more smooth unless you have another modifier like ticking or roaning involved. I'm not sure this applies to other animals as I'm not as knowledgeable but in dogs, pigment begins along the spine in the womb and moves downwards. It's extremely, extremely rare in the grand scheme of things to find dogs with one paw colored but the rest of the leg white. It CAN happen, I've seen it in poodles, but that isn't the norm.

Please see the first image here: Click. It illustrates dynamically (it's animated) how color spreads and where white would end up. Usually a piebald individual would have in excess of 50% white. The term 'collared irish' refers to 50% white, 50% color, and piebald usually refers to anything less than 50% color.

It's also important to note that this isn't albinism / achroma and doesn't cause pink pawpads, pink eyerims, etc. Dogs can have full pigment in their nose, pawpads, eye rims, etc but still be piebald.

i guess the only issue is that unless piebald is the 10th marking and 100% it'd likely be overridden by other markings, probably why the op wanted it to be a mutation as that'd go over any markings
