Hey, thought I should pop in because i finally have the time to answer your question(s). ^^

Because it's an explosion caused and created with magic, it really all depends on what kind of magic we're talking about. If the magic revolved around fire or even radiation, it would make sense to leave your character partially bald (tempoarily or permanetly, all depends on how fatal or scarring the explosive was).
I think these are just a few of the factors you need to think about to answer your questions, and again, if its something having to do with fire, scarring on that side of the face that was hit would also make sense. Oh, and if your story is touching on the magic side, be sure to explain why (of course you don't have to) wouldn't healing spells or incantantions work to heal such wounds.

I think I will make her bald, it adds more flavor, and I do have a pretty sweet explanation. :3

The cause of her balding wasn't the explosion itself, it was caused by her exerting her magic in order to save her sister. She could have shielded herself from the explosion, but instead took the blast to save her sister, which in turn uses ALL of her magic, leaving her wounded, disabled, and magic-less.

Sorry for not being active... kinda moved into an apartment and my roommates have been stressing me out more than I thought possible.... also got into a new relationship (thankfully the boyfriend understands the stress). Work is keeping me busy as well.
