Avisa had been up before the sun. That was the way she usually liked to start her days, in the cool morning air listening to the forest birds serenade each other with sunrise songs. She had a special spot on the top of the falls where the water wouldn't damp her fur, but she could still enjoy its rumble. As she made her way back to camp, she could hear some members of her pack starting to rise and rustle themselves out of their warm dens.

"Morning patrol, anyone?" The canine called out from the edge of camp in a flat tone. She sat back stiffly on her hunches. As every morning since she was appointed lead warrior, Avisa waited for another one or two warriors to join her on the perimeter check. "The rouges and scavengers won't scare themselves off."

Haruki

Haruki rolled over to his side before beginning to open his tired, drowsy eyelids. He lifted his head and rubbed his eyes with his paw before feeling the warm shafts of bright light seep through the openings of the mossy dens. He blinked several times, adjusting his eyes to the brightness of the sunlight. Then steadily, he rose to his feet and stretched, pushing his front paws forward as he stood with his tail curled up. He bent his flattened ears as he yawned silently, showing his jaw full of long, wide teeth while curling up his pink tongue. His ears then erected forward, hearing a slightly loud call from outside the dens. "It must be Avisa calling out her warriors." Haruki thought, then peeking his head through the den entrance.

His long, feathery tail swayed slowly and side-to-side as he watched a small, but plump chipmunk, stuffing several acorns or other nuts into its pouch in its mouth while it stood quietly at the top of a large, grey boulder. It quickly scurried away as Haruki advanced towards the chipmunk, placing on paw onto an old, mossy log as his other paw was hanging in the air like his tongue. He then got down on all fours, losing interest on the chipmunk as he lost sight of it. Haruki walked off, though stopped and twitched his ears in annoyance as he felt a group of flies buzz around his ears and landing on his head. He shook his head lightly as he heard a murder of unsuspecting crows caw in distress after being ambushed by a predator. He then changed pathways, deciding that it was better to avoid all the loud noises and annoying, buzzing flies and just walk around and enjoy the fresh, cool, morning air.

Though, his thoughts were completely interrupted by a slightly unfamiliar, loud hoot from above. He glanced up at a large, Great Horned Owl, who began to hoot again. Haruki made a menacing glare at the loud owl with his bright green eyes before it flew away, as if intimidated by his horrifying expression. He made a small grin before continuing off onto his morning stroll.

Carameli ~ Beta Female

Carameli's deep brown eyes fluttered open, greeted by the light that filtered through the trees and into the den area. She drowsily glanced around the den for a few moments, noticing Haruki was already gone. 'He's probably on his morning stroll.' She thought with a yawn. She slowly pushed herself up onto her paws and shook her fur, ridding it of any dust that might have collected overnight. She then began to smooth down her fur, making sure she looked presentable. When she was happy with her appearance, she padded outside, just in time to hear Avisa ask if anyone wanted to join a patrol. Carameli would have joined, to help out the warriors, but she had other plans for the morning. She wanted to organize a hunting party. Normally, that would be the Lead Hunter's job, but currently, the pack didn't have one, and they were very short on hunters as well. So, she had decided to take matters into her own paws for now. 

She raised her head and sniffed at the air, trying to find Haruki's scent. She wanted to ask if the other Beta would like to join in on the hunting patrol, since they'd need all the help they could get. Once she located the male's scent, she followed after it, nodding and smiling politely at Avisa as she passed her. 

She padded after Haruki's scent at a swift pace, her paws hardly making any noise as she moved through the forest. She caught up with him quickly, and slowed down so that she was leisurely walking beside him. "Good morning." She greeted him happily, wagging her tail. "I hope I didn't bother you. I was just wondering if you'd like to join a hunting patrol after you're done walking." She looked over at him for a few moments, waiting for his response.

Grizel - elder
The older dog would rather not be up so early every morning, but just as most mornings, the sounds of the pack waking began filtering through the dens. It would be easy enough to ignore and go back to sleep, but for the instincts ingrained by training and several litters of pups. She would doze off again, once she was somewhere where she could keep track of goings-on at the same time.

She yawned widely, stretching thoroughly to loosen up her bad hip. That done, and a few licks to her paws to be sure the fur there was clear of dirt or debris, she padded outside. Sniffing the air for a moment, she noted those who were already out and about.

Heading to the nearest broad patch of sunlight, she lay back down, head on her paws and appearing to be quickly asleep. The occasional twitch of an ear belied that, though, betraying a partial awareness even as she dozed.

Hazel
Hazel awoke to the sound of paws passing her den. She yawned before stretching and making her way out of the den. She decided to take a morning stroll and gather herbs as she goes. She shakes her pelt before padding past Avisa. "Morning Avisa." Hazel exited the packs camp and began her way to the the falls. As she arrived at the falls she sat down for a while, watching the water fall peacefully. She smiled before sniffing and looking around for some useful herbs.

After getting enough of what she needed she headed back to the camp. She carries them straight to her den to start organizing her herbs and stocking back up. Soon she was done and sat down outside of her den and began to groom her fur. She watched as Grizel walked out of her den, noticing that her hip was bugging her. Hazel stood up and walked to the elder. As she approached she wagged her tail. "Good morning Grizel," She bowed her head respectivly. "I noticed your hip is giving you some trouble this morning. Would you like some GoldenRod or Daisy leaves for that?" She asked softly.


Olive
Olive walked back into the packs camp. She always wakes up extra early, due to instinct of watching over pups. She heard Avisa call out for a patrol. Shrugging, Olive walked over to her. "I would like to go, if you don't mind." Olive knew that since there was no pups to watch she would just be sitting around all day, why not go on a patrol and spend her day usefully. She sat down and stretched behind her ear with her back leg.

Grizel
One ear perked up, listening, as Hazel approached, and as the Shaman neared, Grizel opened her eyes, lifting her head to watch the other. She wagged her own tail in returned greeting. "Good morning, Hazel. It is a bit, mostly just stiff. The sun should help loosen it up. If those would help, too, I certainly won't say no."

Lenna

Lenna woke, sunlight warming her fur. She opened her bright blue eyes, looking around. She nearly forgot that she had slept outside of the camp the night before. She stood, shaking the leaves and twigs from her pelt and trotted into camp.

Hazel nodded. "The sun is the best medicine. But yes, I will get you some Goldenrod. I'll be right back." She smiled and bowed her head once again before turning and walking past Lenna, giving her a smile and a head bow. She looked around in her den for some Goldenrod and soon found it. She grabbed a small mouth full and headed back to Grizel. "These are used best as a poultice, do you mind if I chew them up? Its much faster. But if you don't want me to you can." She said laying them down next to her.

Lenna noticed Hazel smile at her and smiled back, a charming twinkle in her eye. She, however, snapped out of it when she heard the call for a patrol. Group work wasn't really her thing, but she did enjoy working hard for her clan. Deciding not to go, she moved to the fresh-kill pile. She was about to grab a juicy squirrel when she remembered those of a higher rank.
Lenna looked back at Hazel and Grizel before picking up a sparrow and a squirrel. She brought them to the two female dogs, dropping the squirrel in front of Grizel and the sparrow in front of Hazel. "Good Morning."

Grizel waited patiently for Hazel to return, watching Lenna move across the camp from her spot in the sun. Somewhere off in the forest, a woodpecker drilled for insects. She looked back to Hazel at her return. "No, go ahead. I'm not too proud to admit I have no idea what to do with them."

Turning her gaze toward Lenna as the hunter walked over, she wagged her tail in greeting, mouth falling open a bit in a smile as she smelled the squirrel. "Good morning. Thank you."

Haruki

Haruki stood quietly inside a peaceful, silent meadow surrounded by tall, damp grass and green moss clinging onto the large willow trees around the area. He watched as the fallen green leaves of nearby trees circled and danced around each other as a strong gust of wind passed by. He rested for a while, sitting down and leaning against the thick, rough trunk of a massive, tall tree which he couldn't remember which type it was. He then stood up for a moment, deciding that it was time to head back to the Main Pack Area. He kept still and gentle as a butterfly flew slowly onto his black nose and stood there twitching its wings continuously. He made a small grin and admired the butterfly's beautiful patterned wings as it was fully spread out. Then, his ears perked up as if startled at the sound of a familiar voice, which made the butterfly flutter away against the cold breeze of wind that was starting to come towards his direction. Carameli, He then thought, reassuring himself. He then wagged his tail as she wagged hers before greeting him.

"Good morning, Carameli." He replied back in a calmer voice, then nudging her by the snout affectionately with his nose. He listened as Carameli offered for him to join the hunting patrol. Haruki nodded quickly with a

"Sure, of course I'd like to come and tag along." Haruki walked forward towards the back of her and turned his head, as if waiting for her to lead the way.

Hazel nodded to the elder. Lenna had dropped a bird next to her foot. "Thank you Lenna." She said nuzzling the dog with her muzzle. She chewed up the daisy leaves into the poultice and applied it to Grizel's hip. "That should do it, if you need anything else just let me know." She said with a smile. She grabbed the sparrow and turned to Lenna. "Go grab something to eat and come eat with me." She said smiling and heading to a shady spot.

Lenna dipped her head to the elder. She noticed the herbs being applied but didn't ask, not wanting to cause any discomfort in the older dog. She pricked her ears slightly when she heard Hazel address her. She nodded, smiling and trotted back to the pile. She nosed through it until she found a tasty robin and walked over to Hazel. Laying down beside her, she looked up at the sky. "It's been really dry lately. I wonder when the next rainfall is."

"That should do fine, thank you, Hazel," Grizel stated, and watched the other two dogs walk off before turning her attention to the squirrel that Lenna had left. That matter summarily dispatched, she remained where she was for a few more minutes, watching as the Alpha came out of his den and selected a carcass from the food pile. There should probably be a hunting party sent out, she mused.

Standing, she stretched, finding the stiffness in her hip much reduced, and shook, dislodging and leaves and debris from her fur. Not one to bother a dog who was eating, she instead began loping toward the Falls, seeking a drink.
