The Charge option should only appear if you start the battle first or after you choose the "Rest" option otherwise you are given the Bite/Swipe/Grab options.

Who starts the fight depends on your stats compared to your enemy. Have you noticed a set of arrows between you health bar and the one you fihgt? who it points means they begin. If you begin, you can choose to pounce, trample or charge, but if you don't, you have the bite, swipe and so options. It is not a bug, or a glitch.

I know that. The thing I don't get is why, after nearly a month of playing, I went from always having the charge option no matter who started first to having a 50/50 chance of having it. If it was always supposed to be me not having it when the opponent goes first, I'm wondering if I was glitched somehow.

When you change zone, the enemies become more "powerful", at least to the rolled lions, from my experience. Just be patient and gain stats, then you can use the first move in battle again!
