what is 'Myostatin' you ask? In contrast to gene defects leading to muscle loss or weakness, some genes, when altered, can lead to increased muscle strength and growth. Myostatin is a protein produced and released by a fancy thing called 'myocytes' that acts on muscle cells' autocrine function to inhibit myogenesis: muscle cell growth and differentiation. Animals either lacking myostatin or treated with substances that block the activity of myostatin have significantly more muscle mass. Furthermore, individuals who have mutations in both copies of the myostatin gene have significantly more muscle mass and are stronger than normal. So basically any animal with this rare mutation is like....the incredible hulk. <*img src=""> One child was recently born in Germany inheriting the human form of the same mutated gene and was consequently born with excessive muscle growth in the arms and legs. This myostatin gene was first discovered by scientists in a particular strain of mutant mice, subsequently named mighty mice, that had twice as much muscle as normal. It appears that dog breeders have been inadvertently selecting for this same gene for many years in whippet racing. A study showed that a high number of dogs in the top racing classes had one copy of this mutant gene. Dogs that inherit two copies of the mutant gene are particularly muscular and are known in the whippet-breeding community as bully whippets which, contrary to the name and appearance, have a very placid temperament. <*img src=""> Belgian Blue cattle contain a mutation dysrupting myostatin's normal role of limiting muscle growth. As a result they produce a third more muscle than normal cows. From my personal research on this mutation it CAN pass from inheritance....so a possibility of it becoming a passable mutation in the future if it is to be implemented. Because this mutation is seemingly 'induced' more often than it is naturally occurring perhaps this mutation could be unique to the effect of GMO cows or CRB effects? (For example you can't get one unless you use CRB or GMO......thoughts?) <*img src=""> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myostatin |

This mutation, or at least something extremely similar, is already planned. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Staff actually discusses different mutant ideas all the time. And this suggestion is one of them. It hasn't been put on the thread, but it's one of the many, many planned mutations. 0 players like this post! Like? |

I say no. If they have many planned and they see this, they will know it is one in the most demand, and will implement it sooner. 0 players like this post! Like? |
