Ryetail came to a stop at the Crystal Cave, panting. The glimmering water with two large rocks jutting out were glorious, and she felt her heart quick. She crawled to the water, and took a small lap from it. She closed her eyes and lay her head down, weighed by sudden exhaustion.

Ryestar bounded into camp, her chest wanting to swell with pride but she kept it down for the sake of Harestar's mourners. She remembered the lives clearly; she'd recall her father's fondly, and was willing to keep her ceremony only to herself, as was custom.

Stormstar looked out at his gathered clan. "We all know the tragedy that has struck us today. With Fallenstar's passing, JadeClan has lost a great leader. And she will be missed. But a new deputy must be appointed." He paused for a second before he continued. "I say these words before the body of Fallenstar so that she may hear and approve my choice. Mottlefire," he glanced down at the she-cat, "I want you as my deputy."

Bramblefur listed while Stormstar spoke. When he mentioned his grandmother being missed, Bramblefur couldn't agree more. Fallenstar had always cared for her clan, and watched out for him. And at the annoucement of the deputy, Bramblefur smiled. He stood and cheered, "Mottlefire!"

Hawkrain happened to look up from his duties just as Ryestar padded into camp. He stood from where he had been helping Sagepaw rub herbs into the dead leader's pelt and greeted Ryestar. "Ryestar... Welcome back! I can assume all went well?" The warrior knew what bad luck they had been having with leaders... But he felt that Ryestar was a great choice.

Ryestar dipped her head to Hawkrain. "It went perfectly. I am now ready to take on leadership,". Her gaze flicked to the dead leader. "How is the vigil coming along? How is the Clan taking it?".

Mottlefire | She-cat | Deputy | Jadeclan

At first the she-cat stiffened when she heard her name as the choice for the new deputy. How come Stormstar saw her as more worthy than Bramblefur or some other warrior in the clan? Well, whatever his reason was, Mottlefire was honored and glad. Smiling, she made eye contact with Stormstar before dipping her head in respect and thanks. There was nothing better than hearing the clan cheer her name, all sounding glad and accepting of her nomination. "Thank you, Stormstar. I am honored and will do everything in my power to serve you and Jadeclan well." she mused, a blush coming to her cheeks from the sudden attention she was getting from everyone cheering her name. Turning her head to Bramblefur she gave him a crooked smile, seeing that he was genuinely happy.

Bramblefur noticed her shyness and scooted closer to the new deputy. "You'll make a great deputy, Mottlefire." He smiled at the tabby stripped silver cat. He knew she would. His attention was turned back up to Stormstar as he started to speak again. The warrior nodded along and when the leader was finished he stood from his spot.

Stormstar waited for the welcoming of Mottlefire to die down. "Yes, thank you Mottlefire. We're happy to have you as deputy." The leader smiled and then turned back to the entire clan. "We will all sit vigil for Fallenstar tonight. She served JadeClan for many moons, and she will be missed."

The warrior nodded. "Yes, we were just finishing up with the preparations for her." The warrior paused. "You still need to assign your deputy before moonhigh?" Hawkrain hoped he wasn't stepping on any toes, but he just didn't want the new leader to forget such an important job.

At the sound of her name Ravenstrike's head snapped up, and for a moment she was certain she had been caught at a bad time. She sighed in relief upon realizing it was only Darkpaw, a broad smile met her lips "of course" she purred, happy that he would be coming along. She opened her mouth to say more when Ryetail announced that she would like the clan to stay were. She turned to the apprentice, miffed that they had lost their chance. "It seems we may have to stay a little longer for Ryetail..." she mumbled.

Mottlefire gave Bramblefur a look of appreciation. He comforted her and made her feel ready to take on the task to be the new deputy of Jadeclan. She knew that her responsibilities would really start tomorrow, but the comfort was very much appreciated, "Thank you, Bramblefur..." she whispered, flicking her tail over his flank in a gesture to show her thanks. When Stormstar began to speak again, she looked up at him and nodded in agreement. Rising with Bramblefur, she turned to where she and Littlecloud had brought the old leader. With a glance around at the clan, she walked towards Fallenstar's body. Settling herself next to her, she left enough room for the others to join her in pressing their muzzles into her fur, a sign of respect and mourning.

The smile that had spread over his face faltered the second he heard Ryestar's call for everyone to stay where they were. Once again, he was being deprived of his training. "It's okay, perhaps tomorrow. I can't seem to find Robinnose anywhere." Sighing, he turned towards the new leader and settled himself in the sand. He waited for the announcement, he was curious to see who the new leader would appoint as the next deputy.

Ravenstrike rested her tail tip on his shoulder for a second or two, she could see the disappointment on the apprentice's face. "Tomorrow sounds good, we should start early, and I'm sure Robinnose will turn up sooner or later" she meowed; her eyes focused on Ryestar behind him. As he turned she gave the undergrowth one last glance, for a moment she saw an orange pelt flash past, she smiled to herself, knowing it was just Rustheart.

Upon killing the rodent he picked it up along with the dirtied mole and bolted back to the camp. He reached the camp within minutes, and just before entering he felt his fur barely grace a black and white she-cat. A misplaced paw and abrupt stop later, he tripped and rolled into the camp. He rolled twice before coming to a complete stop. Slight embarrassment rushed over him and he attempted to act like it hadn't happened. Picking up the mole and mouse he strode to the fresh kill pile and dropped the two carcasses there.
It was then that he noticed the fallen leader Harestar. A small pang of grief struck him, but he hadn't known her as a leader. He sighed wondering why this was happening to his clan.

Ice fur was just drifting off to sleep when the deputy ran into the camp. She pinned her ears back in annoyance, not particularly at the deputy, but because her fatigue was almost unbearable now that she got a taste of a nap. She sat up at the announcement of harestar's passing. how could she be dead already? she thought to herself as the grogginess subsided. She emerged from under the bush moments later, after Ryetail had left camp, stretching her legs with her first steps. Then pacing over to witness the former leader's body. She furrowed her brow and frowned at the sight. Her tail drooped and she turned around to walk back to the bush she had laid under. Icefur sat beside the bush and wrapped her tail around her paws. Her blue eyes resting on the ground before her. She shot a quick prayer to starclan in hopes that Harestar's spirit faired well on her journey. Lifting her paw, she began to clean her fur. She sat and cleaned her fur until she saw Ryetail return, now as Ryestar.
Icefur bowed her head from afar at the new leader of Whisperclan. Then perked her ears at the sound of thuds on the hard ground. Turning her head she wasn't surprised to see Rustheart rolling into the camp, he was always so giddy, so-- clumsy. She rolled her eyes and shook her head at him.

The tom watched the ceremony quietly and cheered along with the other cats.

A sad smile flickered over his face as he glanced at Ravenstrike. He appreciated her enthusiasm and her reassurance that everything was going to be okay. Perhaps, if he wouldn't be such a worrier, he would believe her. "You're probably right. I'll see tomorrow." he said softly, looking towards Ryestar, awaiting her announcement. He had no idea who would be deputy, but he didn't think that Ravenstrike was a bad idea. Glancing at Ravenstrike, he agreed with himself. His eyes drifted to Icefur and Rustheart, who joined them at the gathering.

Mottlefire lifted her nose from the dead leaders fur when she heard the strange tom speak. She studied him closely for a moment before pushing herself up into a sitting position. "Nice to meet you, Sunstripe, and thank you. How did you happen upon Jadeclan? And more importantly, when?" she asked, cocking her head slightly, a confused expression taking hold of her face. It seemed strange to her that a cat would just appear out of nowhere without anyone noticing and no one giving him a warrior name and introducing him to the rest of the Clan. It could be that the tom had already been a warrior of another clan but decided to join Jadeclan. Still, why had no one noticed?

Ashkit let out a shrill squeak after feeding. She was cold and there were noises just outside. She was scared. There was a faint lingering scent that scared her. It was frightening. She screeched again in panic. She couldn't tell where any cat was.

Ryestar climbed the Leader's Hill, her decision completely made. She lifted her muzzle, yowling the Clan summon, and then waited for cats to approach. The weight of her new responsibilities was less when she realized her deputy would be there to help her.
